More specifically, we are interested in the design of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and wound-healing bionanocomposites with optimal therapeutic effects and high long-term stability for benign skin diseases, which are thought to be responsible for superficial or even deep ulcerative complications due to neglect.

A nossa investigação sobre esta molécula e sobre as nanopartículas de prata (em particular) foi muito aprofundada, uma vez que actuam como reforços sinérgicos para a atividade antibacteriana. No entanto, também falámos de outros biopolímeros e de outros agentes anti-sépticos metálicos, e discutimos as ligações cruzadas físicas e químicas com os diferentes estados da matéria destas redes de bionanocompósitos. Algumas partes deste livro apresentam outras utilizações para os bionanocompósitos, tais como produtos terapêuticos, engenharia de tecidos, agroalimentar ou engenharia química em geral.

Highlights of this scientific book:Biosourced nanocomposite materials have been attracting increasing attention in recent years, making them of interest in biomedical research.Chitosan (CS) is one of the most widely used molecules in these structures, acting as a matrix. Our research has focused on this molecule, and on silver nanoparticles (in particular), as synergistic reinforcers of antibacterial activity. Despite this, we've also talked about other biopolymers and metallic antiseptic agents, and we've discussed the physical and chemical cross-links with the different states of matter, of these bionanocomposite networks. Parts of this book show other uses for bionanocomposites, such as therapeutic products, tissue engineering, food processing and chemical engineering in general.
