Söhne und Töchter verrieten ihre Eltern, Mütter ihre Kinder und Hexenjäger bereisten das Land auf der Suche nach, wie wir heute wissen, unschuldigen Opfern. Die Forschung spricht heute von etwa 3 Millionen angeklagten Menschen, von denen 40.000 bis 60.000 hingerichtet wurden.Der Autor geht den Ursachen für diese oft "Hexenwahn" genannte Erscheinung in der intensivsten Phase von 1560-1630 nach und untersucht dabei umweltbedingte, wirtschaftliche, psychologische, soziale und religiöse Aspekte. Dabei werden heutige oft zu hörende, leider pauschalierte und klischeeorientierte Behauptungen hinterfragt und nicht zuletzt die Lebensrealität der Menschen im Zeitraum der Hexenverfolgung berücksichtigt.Dieses Essay wurde im Rahmen eines Hauptseminar zum Thema "Krieg und Frieden in Europa" als wissenschaftliche Arbeit erstellt.
