How do you use your freedom? Most of us have never been slaves. We were born into freedom and have experienced the privilege of living freely our whole lives. But are we using it well? Are we pursuing God-sized dreams, or are we tempering His Spirit by merely existing? The first volume of this Exodus study (1:1-12:32) revealed how God is the unmatched expert at setting people apart. He sets Himself apart in countless ways and then does something remarkable-He invites people into His holiness. God longed for Israel to be holy (set apart) like He is holy, and He commenced this initiative by freeing them from slavery through jaw-dropping miracles. Israel tasted freedom for the first time as a nation and had the extraordinary opportunity to thrive as God's people in their newfound freedom. Unfortunately, they did not seize the opportunity. But we can. These next passages in Exodus (12:33-18:27) are rich with priceless truths that God yearns for us to treasure in our lives. They are ready and waiting for us to seize and teach us (through Israel's failures and successes) to use the freedom we have in Christ for God's glory and our sanctification. We were not created to merely exist. God wants us to thrive in the freedom we have in Him, and He has given us many ways to do just that in these captivating chapters of Exodus.
Who was Jesus? Why does it matter? Our beliefs about Jesus have earthly repercussions and eternal ramifications. He is the crux of Christianity and the Stone upon whom all theology is constructed. What we believe about Jesus matters, because every worldview involves either rejection or acceptance of His Lordship. But the context of our belief in Jesus is just as important as the belief itself. Erroneous context leads to illegitimate faith. Unfortunately, many people believe inaccurate portrayals of Jesus-lies craftily devised by the enemy to cripple Christ's followers and render them useless (or worse-harmful!) to the world. The consequences of these lies seep into the depths of our families, churches, culture, and world like a rampant plague. This volume reveals how and why so many Christians take Jesus out of context. It also shows how we can combat that plague by pursuing Jesus accurately within the context of Scripture. The only way to fight deceit is with truth. We must know how to discern it if we want to thrive on earth as we will in heaven.
