Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2018 in the subject Biology - Miscellaneous, grade: 82% Aggregate In Bachelor, , course: Bachelor In Agriculture, language: English, abstract: The present research consists of 12 rice genotypes and the experiment was conducted during June- November, 2017 in Randomized Block Design with three replication at NARC, Kumaltar. The data were recorded for ten quantitative character to study genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance and correlation coefficient analysis. Analysis of variance among 12 genotypes showed significant difference for all characters studied except non- effective tiller. Grain yield had positive significant correlation with SPAD and positive correlation with 1000 grain weight, flag leaf area, days of 50% flowering, plant height, number of effective tiller and panicle length and negative significant correlation with number of non-effective tiller and negative correlation with days of 90%maturity. Moderate genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) and phenotypic coefficient variation (PCV) was observed for flag leaf area and followed by grain yield and number of effective tiller, that these characters could be used as selection for crop improvement. High estimates of heritability were observed for days of 50% flowering and followed by panicle length, flag leaf area, test weight and days of 90% maturity. High genetic advance were found in number of non effective tiller, grain yield per meter square, no of effective tiller and flag leaf area indicating pre-dominance of additive gene effects and possibilities of effective selection for the improvement of these characters.

Rice is most important cereal and stable food crops of Nepal and fulfilled about 50- 80% of caloric requirement of Nepalese people. It is important cereal crop, both in terms of cultivated area, production and supporting livelihoods. Most of the people of Nepal are living in rural area; face poverty, hunger and inadequate rainfall pattern which leads to food insecurity. Population is increasing, demands more food and to feed increasing population, agriculture production should increases per unit area. Most of the the irrigated and plan cultivable land in Nepal are converting into forest of concert so, due to this reason research was carried out to explore the ideas of genetic variability of rainfed rice to determine the best rice genotype in rainfed condition, which helps in some extend to meet food demand and to tolerate with irregular rainfall pattern in Nepal.
