In 1849 the San Antonio-El Paso Military Road was built. To protect that road in the trans-pecos region Fort Davis was built in 1854 by the US Army and named after the then Secretary of War, Jefferson Davis. From then on it not only protected that road but also the Rio Grande Big Bend region of West Texas. With the secession of Texas and it joining the Confederate States of America Fort Davis passed into the control of the CS Army. This narrative focuses on the little known period of the fort from 1861-1865 when it was occupied by Grey Pony Soldiers from Texas.
The President of the United States has learned thru the Governor of Puerto Rico from the NIE there that there is a clandestine worldwide group, known as the Circle of Horus, that may present a clear and present danger to the United States. To run an NSC investigation of this group he needs a person not involved with US politics. He selects Vice-Admiral Juan Delmonte of the Naval Defense Force of the Puerto Rico Defense Forces, a former naval officer in the US Navy. He gives him federal recognition in that rank and names him as Director of the Special Projects Group of the NSC. He might find out things that he should not known but Delmonte was a person of principles.
The Cuban Revolutionary Coordination Junta (JCR) is up to its activities again, this time directly against the United States. A good information source of the NIE of Puerto Rico has let them know about it and they in turn have contacted the CIA. Now a combined secret operation is under way to counter the Cuban threat.
This is an alternate history, from others considered, of how and when, the Confederate States would have defeated the United States in the War Between the States and how those states would have developed up to the present.
