Academic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 62, University of Salford, language: English, abstract: This paper examines the possibilities of expansion for the Hard Discounter Chain "Lidl" that operates in the food and non-food retail sector. The organization is keen to expand on an international scale, and it will be evaluated if the expansion is more likely to be successful by opening a store in Norway or Mexico. The paper will use different analysing models to identify the most attractive target market. This paper focuses on the country of Mexico to determine its potential as a target market for Lidl's future international expansion strategy. The rationale is processed with a more detailed discussion of a PESTEL analysis of the macro-environmental factors of the selected market. An explicit impact of the macro-environmental factors on the selected market is evaluated. Porter's 5-factor model is applied to critically analyse the competitive intensity of Lidl's industrial environment in the chosen market. Resources as well as the capabilities of Lidl and their impact on competition as the company enters the market are critically evaluated. The various market entry opportunities are examined, and recommendations are made as to which are available to Lidl. To this end, recommendations are made around the market entry opportunity that will allow the company to make this strategic international expansion a success.

Academic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 69, , language: English, abstract: This paper refers to a catering supplier called creative catering Ltd. (CC), based in Basel, Switzerland. In 2015, they opened a new branch called "In-flight Services and Catering" (ISC), providing services to the in-flight industry. ISC serves on a high-class level to private, corporate, governmental and royal customers from an international setting with multicultural backgrounds who do not have a local airline service for their needs. ISC cannot be compared to the more basic services provided on first-class charter flights (CF), because it provides to a smaller audience focusing much more on individual needs than a CF. ISC is delivering up to four flights a day, to small business jets and wide-body long-haul aircraft. In 2018 the ISC generated a revenue of CHF 280,000 which is about a fourth of the CC total income. The combination of services and goods provided by ISC in relation with the difficult forecasting situation will be discussed thoroughly throughout the paper. This difficult relationship shows how important a clearly defined operations management and process setup is.Catering is the largest part of the branch, therefore, this paper mainly considers the in-flight catering sector with its process of the ordering system, discussing the vulnerability and challenges within the system and analysing a lean approach to improve its performance and evaluate new findings.

Essay from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Supply, Production, Logistics, grade: 62, University of Salford, language: English, abstract: This paper evaluates the relationship and the supply chain between a UK organization importing food and a Greek organization exporting food. The economic risks, issues of sustainability, environmental problems and scarcity of raw materials will be discussed regarding the concept of a procurement management network. The main question is how such a network can be managed on a global scale, while looking at possible risks and case studies dealing with specific parts of the subject. The paper is structured linearly to give a clear representation of the important aspects of procurement and supplier relationship management (SRM). The important aspects will be assessed individually with a focus on how a sustainable relationship can be built considering that the economic situation could change rapidly in a cross-border relation. Firstly, it is essential to look at the SRM as a basis of the process of procurement. This is followed by an assessment of how the authorities should be involved and how a contractual concept can support a supply chain relation network. Furthermore, possible economic risks will be taken into consideration. These economic risks are in juxtaposition to a potential scarcity of raw materials and the difficulties that international trade has to deal with in order to show responsibility for an increasing environmental threat. Finally, it will be discussed, how sustainability can be ensured. All of those various aspects of procurement management will be supported by case studies.
