For the first time, all three books are available together and in print after appearing separately on Kindle. In The Maltese Connection, Dóra, frustrated at the low murder-rate in Iceland, leaps at the opportunity to take part in a six-month job swap in Malta. Soon, she is helping her new boss, Inspector Deboneo of the Maltese CID, an original but eccentric thinker, solve the murders of two single mature female tourists. Will they be able to catch the Bugibba Strangler before the serial killer destroys the Maltese tourist industry? And has poor old Morose been left on the sidelines holding the babies? In Murder on the Moselle, ex-Inspector Morose is delighted to win a 21-night, all inclusive holiday with Valhalla River Cruises, exploring the Danube, the Rhine and the Moselle. One of the guest lecturers on board, Prof. Edwards of Newcastle University, begins to suffer panic attacks, believing he is surrounded by enemies. Half-way through the cruise, he is found drowned in the Moselle. Did he commit suicide? Was it a drunken accident or was he pushed? Can detective logic and deduction triumph over chaos and the power of the butterfly? In ICED, Dóra is overjoyed to be handed a major case in her native Iceland. She decides she needs Morose's help as an undercover agent and drags him reluctantly out of retirement (he thinks she's using him as bait to enhance her career). But has she badly miscalculated? Will this be Morose's very last case? And will the twins be left fatherless?

  • - a story about football for teenage girls (and maybe a few boys)

The Gang of 3 (three very different personalities, Kirsty, Suzie and Zoe) form the spine of the Greenside Girls u/14 football team. After a disastrous first date, Kirsty, the team's feisty captain and midfield dynamo, loses the plot and gets herself sent off, costing her team two vital promotion points. Is Kirsty strong enough to overcome this lowest moment of her short life and fulfil her quest for football honours, true romance and the perfect pork pie? And why is an unexpected third card so vital for her future happiness? The Winning Tackle is the sequel to the popular The Winning Touch and sees the return of colourful characters like Meathook, Adriano and Killer Kev. Which is more important: losing in style or winning ugly? Is it possible to play the beautiful game and win?

For the first time, all three books are available together in print after appearing separately as eBooks on Kindle. These are the last three works in the nine-book Inspector Morose series. Book 7, The Pizza Murders, presents four different timelines and several story strands. After being rescued with hypothermia, Morose is lying in intensive care in a coma. Snatches of his past life flash through his tormented brain -- his achievements and failures, his first love, his relationship with his dad and his first case with Eddie. In Book 8, The Spanish Connection, Morose continues his recovery in Spain with Inspector Deboneo and his long-suffering wife Maria who have rented a holiday villa. This is a sequel to Book 4 in the series, The Maltese Connection. Finally, The Girl who Killed the Butterfly returns to the broad-ranging, political thriller style of Books 1 and 3. One heir to the throne is beheaded in the desert; others are killed in horrific accidents. The country finds itself split down the middle as a Civil War threatens to topple Uncle Kenny's populist government.

Book 3 in my football series is very different from the first two books, The Winning Touch and The Winning Tackle, in that it is more concerned with growing up, relationships and rites of passage, although the football detail remains important. This is the story of Pandora, who previously has only been talked about but now actually makes her first appearance in person with a devastating impact. As well, the tales of the other main characters, Killer Kev, Meaty, Davo, Kirsty, Suzie, Zoe and Adriano are continued. The ground is laid for The Winning Team, the final book in the series, which will return to the style of the first two books. This time, though, the tone is darker as evil throws one of the major players into a deep crisis...

  • - 15 amazing adventures

For this "Mega-Compendium", I have added 5 new stories to the 10 already published. In the new stories, Firewoman Sam is invited to tour fire-fighting associations in Asia. For the first time, all the Firewoman Sam stories are available together on Kindle and in print. There are no pictures and they are intended to be read aloud at bedtime. The stories, which develop and mature, are aimed at kids aged 4-10. Although they are light in tone, they do not avoid serious issues. I hope they will help with verbal skills and will encourage both a discussion of the issues as well as an active imagination. Firewoman Sam is a fearless, feminist fire-fighter who believes that women are just as brave as men. She saves little girls from drowning, puts out fires and rescues grannies stuck in trees.

For the first time, the seven Firewoman Sam stories which have already been published on Kindle are available in printed form (I have made some minor changes). Firewoman Sam rescues kites, cats, a little girl and a pink penguin. As a feminist heroine, she fights fires and prejudice but becoming famous also leads to problems. I have rounded these off with three new stories which describe Sam's search for true love and happiness. They also answer the mystery of what happened to the little girl's dad after the first story. They are intended to be read aloud at bedtime. As they sometimes deal with serious issues, I hope they won't lead to sleepless nights. I think the stories develop and mature as the little girl grows up. So, they start off young (4-5?) and end up at about 10. I hope the stories will help with verbal skills and will encourage both a discussion of the issues as well as an active imagination.

  • - After the Typhoon: Revised and Updated Second Edition

I've revised and updated the first edition to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Tiananmen Square, the bleeding heart of the nation. I concentrate on the period from the end of the Cultural Revolution in 1976 to the massacre in 1989. Instead of a dull, factual historical account, I try to present the atmosphere and colour of Chinese daily life, from early morning tai chi and dim sum to Cantonese opera, snake dinners and ox penis soup. However, I don't gloss over the seamy side: forbidden love, false arrests, forced abortions and public executions. China is presented in all its bewildering complexity -- not only the "Chinese Dream" but also the "Chinese Nightmare". Just what is myth and what is reality?

For the first time, the books in the trilogy are now available all together and in print after appearing separately on Kindle (I have made some minor modifications). In The Girl with the Fish Tattoo, Morose is enlisted to help investigate a series of terrorist bombings which have led to anti-Muslim riots and a right-wing nationalist backlash. Everyone assumes a political explanation but Morose is less convinced. And just how does the sexy biker girl with the piranha tattoo fit in? The Girl who Swam with Sharks represents an exotic interlude from the political thriller style of the other two books and is more like a traditional whodunit. Morose travels to Thailand to rescue his older brother Endeavour who has been arrested and accused of helping his young Thai girlfriend murder her rich American husband. Finally, in The Girl who Cried Wolf, Morose is recalled from exile in Iceland to defuse the Croydon Missile Crisis. After refusing to cooperate with rendition and extradition, Uncle Kenny, who is seeking re-election as Prime Minister after four years in office, is threatened with rogue drone missiles by the American Ambassador. What should Kenny do with Julian St. James, the founder of the radical FidelNews.com website, who has leaked top secret US military documents and is accused of raping a student in Sweden? Also, can Morose solve the curious incident of the wolf which did not howl in the night? At least Morose is not alone and is ably assisted by his trusty sergeant, Louise, by the ambiguous founder of Manchester's No. 1 Transsexuals' Detective Agency, Eddie, and by the lovable Icelandic Criminology student, Dóra.

With the collapse of the euro, the inner city riots, the suicide bombs on the trains and the national public service strikes, the Olympic Games have been transferred from Europe to a safer and more stable venue -- South Africa. Exiled in America, Kirsty, Scotland's only representative, is reunited with Arsenal and England striker Suzie in Team GB, which fortunately has not been drawn in the same group as Killer Kev's Fiji (who have already scalped New Zealand in the qualifiers). Other characters from the earlier books reappear too in this final book of the series: the D-list soap star Pandora is filming a caring advert for African orphans; Davo has been appointed a tournament referee; Adriano is commentating for Radio 5.5 and Zoe and Meaty (accompanied by Meaty Junior) are enjoying a belated honeymoon. The crucial question is: just who will be the winning team?

  • - British Literature of the 1950s: Modernism for Socialist Realists
    af Peter K Tyson
    82,95 kr.

This monograph is a revised, expanded and updated version of a series of lectures which I gave to Chinese students at Sun Yatsen University (Guangzhou) in which I tried to explain modern literature to students with very little background in post-1945 Western literary developments. I use the theoretical debate between Brecht and Lukács on Expressionism as my starting point for examining the differences between Realism and Modernism in British literature during the 1950s. This period was important for the emergence of a genuine working-class culture: the "Angry Young Man", "kitchen-sink drama", strong regional accents and dialects, new gritty cinema and powerful actors like Albert Finney, the son of a northern bookie. I analyse in detail six significant British dramas and six major novels by leading writers like Osborne, Wesker, Pinter, Barstow, Sillitoe and Golding. This book should appeal to anyone interested in literary history and literary theory.
