Conceptual modeling has long been recognized as the primary means to enable so- ware development in information systems and data engineering. Conceptual modeling provides languages, methods and tools to understand and represent the application domain; to elicit, conceptualize and formalize system requirements and user needs; to communicate systems designs to all stakeholders; and to formally verify and validate systems design on high levels of abstraction. The International Conference on Conceptual Modeling provides a premiere forum for presenting and discussing current research and applications in which the major emphasis is on conceptual modeling. Topics of interest span the entire spectrum of conceptual modeling including research and practice in areas such as theories of concepts and ontologies underlying conceptual modeling, methods and tools for - veloping and communicating conceptual models, and techniques for transforming conceptual models into effective implementations. The scientific program of ER 2008 featured several activities running in parallel. The core activity was the presentation of the 33 research papers published in this volume, which were selected by a large Program Committee (PC) Co-chaired by Qing Li, Stefano Spaccapietra and Eric Yu. We thank the PC Co-chairs, the PC members and the additional referees for the hard work done, often within a short time. Thanks are also due to Moira Norrie from ETH Zurich, Oscar Pastor from the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia, and Amit Sheth from the Wright State Univ- sity for accepting our invitation to present keynotes.

Generative adversarial networks (GANs) were introduced by Ian Goodfellow and his co-authors including Yoshua Bengio in 2014, and were to referred by Yann Lecun (Facebook's AI research director) as "e;the most interesting idea in the last 10 years in ML."e; GANs' potential is huge, because they can learn to mimic any distribution of data, which means they can be taught to create worlds similar to our own in any domain: images, music, speech, prose. They are robot artists in a sense, and their output is remarkable - poignant even. In 2018, Christie's sold a portrait that had been generated by a GAN for $432,000.Although image generation has been challenging, GAN image generation has proved to be very successful and impressive. However, there are two remaining challenges for GAN image generation: the quality of the generated image and the training stability. This book first provides an overview of GANs, and then discusses the task of image generation and the details of GAN image generation. It also investigates a number of approaches to address the two remaining challenges for GAN image generation. Additionally, it explores three promising applications of GANs, including image-to-image translation, unsupervised domain adaptation and GANs for security. This book appeals to students and researchers who are interested in GANs, image generation and general machine learning and computer vision.

This year, we received about 170 submissions to ICWL 2008. There were a total of 52 full papers, representing an acceptance rate of about 30%, plus one invited paper accepted for inclusion in this LNCS proceedings. The authors of these accepted papers came from many different countries. We would like to thank all the reviewers for spending their precious time reviewing the papers and for providing valuable c- ments that aided significantly in the paper selection process. Authors of the best papers presented in this conference will be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for possible publication in a special issue of IEEE Internet Computing. This was the second time that the ICWL conference was organized in China. It was particularly special this year to hold ICWL 2008 in China, as the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games were co-located in the same country during the conference period. We would like to especially thank our Organization Co-chair, Lanfang Miao, for spending an enormous amount of effort in coordinating the local arrangements. In fact, we would like to thank the entire conference Organizing Committee for their hard work in putting together the conference. In particular, we would like to express our appreciation to our Registration Chairs, Jiying (Jean) Wang and Lanfang Miao, and Treasurer Howard Leung for their tremendous efforts in communicating with the authors regarding registration matters and maintaining the registration lists up-to-date.

The new concept will facilitate the development of a unified framework for analyzing the stability and convergence of self-tuning control (STC) systems, and potentially, of all adaptive control systems.

This book is the first to provide an in-depth analysis about the history, urban development, planning, and preservation of the Lhasa city over the last thirteen centuries.

  • - An Enactivist Approach
    af Qing Li
    356,95 - 1.214,95 kr.

This book discusses topics concerning digital game-based learning focusing on learning-by-game-building and Web 2.0. The author shows how such an approach can help students gain deep understanding of subjects such as mathematics and history, as well as undergraduate or graduate students' learning of pedagogy and also adult driver's learning of road safety rules.

This book presents a class of novel optimal control methods and games schemes based on adaptive dynamic programming techniques. For systems with one control input, the ADP-based optimal control is designed for different objectives, while for systems with multi-players, the optimal control inputs are proposed based on games.
