A delightful love poem by Rashani Réa, with exquisite collaged illustrations.
Rashani has created more than 55 stunning collages with words by thirteen amazing women who have deeply touched her life.
"An Unfolding of Love" is Rashani Réa's gift to her son, expressing wondrous gratitude and tenderness by sharing with him her creativity and meaningful moments of her life. It includes 41 collages with words by Rashani, photographs of 10 stone altars she has built during the past two decades, and several pages of poetry, written many years ago.Her own mother burned most of her poetry and journals shortly before she died. Perhaps the inspiration for this book was birthed in part from the hollowness Rashani carried for several years following her mother's death; from the longing to have known more intimately her mother's inner world and life experience. It is remarkable how she transforms pain into medicine, time and time again, for the benefit of all beings."Love is the great catalyst, the transformer of inner and outer worlds. Rashani's book, An Unfolding of Love is an altar where the power of love is honored, held in awe, and remembered in the particulars of a human life-which is always where Love meets us. Her words and her images mirror and sing an homage to the force, the sometimes gentle but always irresistible power of the love that takes us and shapes us when we become mothers."-Oriah (Mountain Dreamer) House, author of "The Invitation"
A marvelous collection of 77 collages by Rashani Réa-with words collected from friend's Facebook postings during the past seven years! In the artful book, "I Can Hear Her Breathing: A Prayer Wheel of Images and Words," Rashani Réa shares with us another masterpiece-seventy-seven collages created during the past seven years. This time with modern day poetry and quotes, and a few gems from long ago sages. Rashani effectively bridges the ancient practice of offering timeless wisdom with contemporary social media, which connects many of us around the globe today. In these times, where we experience both the curse and blessing of accessing more media in one day than a person might have heard of in a lifetime in the past, we need a sieve to pass through the information. Rashani is that sieve. With her ability to sift through 'the field, ' tuning in with her ever present clear mind, she has mined the posts on Facebook for gems of beauty, wisdom, and truth.Inspired by the last breaths of a dying friend, she encourages us to listen closely to the voices of these illumined poets, mystics and muses. In a world that often feels isolated and devoid of connection, Rashani invites us to discover yet another way to pray, another way to form community, and open our hearts.
This is the first collection of collages by Rashani Réa, which does not include words. She shares her profound process in the introduction. A new style of collages has emerged. With this book, Rashani gives us beauty in a fluid dance of ecotones-a flow of edges (thresholds) and containers (circles) that invite us to a deeper place, and bring us back out again. We are the same, but different, greater, changed by the play of light, by following the spirals, and connecting the pathways of lines and dots, hues and splashes. A transformation from ordinary to extraordinary, and back to the ordinary. Like the trees in their heliotropic way of always, always, reaching upward toward the sun, Rashani 'cuts the ropes' and sets herself free to walk the land of the visionary artist that she is, and always will be.
A riveting collection of roadside shrines and memorial gardens, accompanied by a few poems!
"e;This weave of sacred poems and images evokes the mystery of formless heartspace...a generous, grace-filled offering!"e; -Tara Brach, author of Radical Acceptance and Trusting the Gold. "e;This book is full of the most beautiful gentle reminders...each one of them to be savoured like a delicious praline. Rashani's fine and delicate art reflects the depth of the poems so perfectly. Thank you, Rashani, for this offering. So needed in this time!"e; -Deva Premal, grammy-nominated devotional singer. "e;This book is a coalescence of Soul-inspired art with Soul-inspired words. It is a natural union of the heart with the mind, the mind with the heart. Together they become one. Each collage created for each chosen phrase is a meditation in and of itself. It is a book to be savored slowly, with enough time to be absorbed again and again."e; -Shiana Seitz, author of Morning Words and First You Let it Go. "e;As I turned through the pages of Rashani Rea's mystical collages and Chelan Harkin's seer-like poetry, I sensed angels tapping my soul with a numinous sensation. Their combined artistry touches the spot where our soul seeks to express our infinite genius. I felt like I was walking inside a stream, sensing how life is held, seen, and heard. How the ordinary is extraordinary when we take time to pray with Nature, listen to our insights, and follow our hearts. Each piece is a full sound and a meditation. When we allow our rawness and our vulnerabilities to kiss the lips of our trueness."e; -Carolyn Riker, poet & author, author of This is Love and Blue Clouds. The way Rashani has of weaving together words and images touches a part of me that is singing the same song, crying with the longing to be One, to be known, to be felt. And Chelan Harkin's poetry opens a place in me that cracks open my heart, and helps my Soul take flight...to the place I know we all belong.... far beyond this world and yet intimately one with everything. Thank you Rashani and Chelan for sharing such beauty with the world."e; -Rajyo Allen, co-founder of Samasati Sanctuary, author of Fumbling Towards Freedom: Initiations on the Journey Home to Myself. In the same way as a bird has to open its wings in order to fly, we have to open our hearts so as to truly live. This is the message underpinning this stunningly beautiful book Taste the Sky. Rashani Rea's soulful artwork combined with the sublime poetry of Chelan Harkin make each page an experience to savour and deeply reflect upon. Just like the ancient contemplative practice of Lectio Divina, there is a hidden music on each and every page, that cries out to be listened to from the "e;ear of our heart."e; Allow this beautiful book to draw you deeper into the mysterious depths of your being; that place where our individual wholeness and the transcendence of our individual wholeness meet. I shall treasure this book, and read it again and again, for it is such a wonderful joy."e; -Christopher Goodchild, author of Unclouded by Longing and The Winds of Homecoming. "e;I have found in these current times, it is the little treasures of truths that capture your mind, spark your spirit, and stir a resonance of your soul by tiny powerful snippets. This can be for us a fundamental, encouraging, daily dose of medicine that we can actualize, absorb and elevate. Taste the Sky is just that. Rashani Ra's collages come from a depth of a life lived in art, nature, mindful community and supporting others through the underworlds of loss and grief. Both Rashani and Chelan have surrendered to the mystic within, becoming conduits of reciprocity with the muse of the outer mystic-that speaks through us in some divine presence. The first time I came across Chelan Harkin's words I was taken, and that love affair of prose hasn't stopped, it just keeps deepening. The two paired is a little heaven upon your bedside or coffee table. A tangible portal into the mystery."e; -K.M. McCauley Anast, author of Myrtle, Shifting Shadows Through Grief & Cancer
