The running boom that started in the 1970s saw millions of people begin to experience the benefits of improved physical fitness, sound sleep and a sense of mental wellbeing. The following decade saw an explosion of interest in big city marathons from New York to Tokyo, now major events in cities all around the world. Extensive findings over the past two decades confirm that running throughout one's life can significantly reduce the risk of developing a range of debilitating conditions. Such activity leads to enhanced prospects of living a longer and healthier disease-free life. Over nearly 50 years, Rob Fryer has run the equivalent of two and a half times around the globe, including 120 marathons and ultramarathons plus hundreds of shorter distance races. Running For Your Life weaves together learnings from medical research with tales from the author's own experience on the roads and trails. What to wear, how to prepare, how to run safely, how to reduce the risk of injury, and what runners can expect as one ages are just some of the topics explored. Rob grew up and started running in South Africa and includes an interesting chapter on the country's journey to democracy. He subsequently spent many years in Europe and now lives and runs in Connecticut, USA. He has run on every continent except Antarctica.
