"You smell like Hell, get away from me!" Those are not exactly the words one would expect to hear upon entering through the doors of a church, the place many refer to as the House of God. Unfortunately, that is the message that is being screamed loud and clear by many that call themselves Christians. The message that is being sent, either intentionally or unintentionally is "my opinion of you is you are on your way to hell, in fact you are already so close to getting there you actually are beginning to smell like hell!" So, what if, we cared enough about those around us, that instead of bashing or ignoring them we did the unthinkable by reaching out and offering them a hand up? Instead of being satisfied with our own fire insurance policy maybe we could use it as motivation. The type of motivation to do all we can to inform others of what we have found in Christ. Becoming so desperate for the souls of those we love and even those we don't love would make us stay awake at night. The type of sleepless night where each time you close your eyes you see all the faces of the people in Hell. Their anguished faces contorting as they plead over and over with you asking WHY? Why did you not let us know there was another way? You realize you failed to ever share with them THE way, Jesus Christ. You can't stop hearing their screams or seeing their torture. In fact, what if we were so consumed and desperate for the eternal destinations of our fellow humans that we got so close to the fires of Hell, pulling them from the flames, that we smelled like smoke? What a compliment it would then be for someone to say, "you smell like Hell!" This is not a church bashing book, instead it is intended as a wake up call for all people.
We all love our pets, and we each have unique ways in which we communicate with them. Have you ever wondered what they really think? What would it be like if they could communicate their thoughts and feelings in words? My nine year old Yorkie poo has done just that. He wrote this book featuring some of his more memorable adventures, and his everyday interactions with his family, friends, and other animals. This is a chance to get inside the mind of a dog, and see just what makes him tick. Most of his antics are humorous, however he does offer some insights into life and how we can learn from our experiences.
Today's church seems to have lost focus on its mission of connecting people with Jesus. Instead of hiding behind the four walls of a building, Christ-followers need to be out engaging the community. Seeking out the broken, lost, and hurting and showing them Jesus in action. As Christ-followers we need to follow the example set by Jesus and meet people where they are. The only way to saturate society with the love of Christ is to actively engage those around us. We must go to them, not sit on a pew waiting for them to come to us.Don't just go to church BE the Church!

What does a life "flipped" by Jesus look like? Flipping houses has become very popular. Interestingly the steps in restoring a home and restoring a life are quite similar. You'll never watch the house flipping shows on cable t.v. from the same perspective again. Interestingly The idea of how restoring a life is almost identical to the steps of restoring a home first hit me during disaster relief restoration work in Gulf Port following Hurricane Katrina. A few years later a couple along my route, invited me in to see their restoration process in their home. This book concept was immediately birthed. Now the timing is perfect for its release with the increased popularity of house flipping shows. The author will take you on a comparative tour of both. This book includes end of chapter discussion questions making it a great tool for a small group study or for use in restoration or recovery groups.
When battling dementia and Alzheimer's it is as if the patient has retreated to a corner of their mind. What changes occur as a result of the onset of this horrible condition? In this updated version of a previous release, the author takes us along the journey he made as caregiver during his mother's battle with Alzheimer's. The reader will learn that lessons can be learned during this journey. The biggest one is that sometimes death comes not as an enemy, but as a friend to release a person from the prison of disease. The reader will also get a glimpse into the effects the disease has upon the caregiver too. Finally, questions will be tossed around dealing with this mind robbing condition. This is a good read for anyone that has ever been touched by Alzheimer's either as a sufferer, caregiver, family member, or friend.
