Instant implant placement has been a focus of clinical practice for implantologists. The technique preserves the alveolar ridge, and it decreases the morbidity and rehabilitation time associated with tooth replacement; furthermore, it increases patient satisfaction with treatment. Instant insertion reduces the time required for osseointegration, which takes 3¿6 months using the conventional protocol. This novel method also minimizes bone resorption by maintaining the periodontal architecture, and it leads to better aesthetic results, particularly when the front teeth are lost. Thus, the advent of instant extraction implants has, proved to be an interesting point in dentistry.
The goal of modern dentistry is to restore the patient¿s dentition to normal contour, function, comfort, esthetics, speech, and overall health. Dental implants serve as long-term predictable anchors for fixed and removable prostheses in fully and partially edentulous patients and that patient satisfaction with dental implant therapy is high. However, the long-term prognosis and success of dental implants depends on a number of factors and most relevant are the diagnosis and treatment planning. For proper treatment planning, a thorough diagnosis is of utmost importance. The treatment plan should begin with a clear idea of the desired end result of treatment, which should fulfill the functional and aesthetic requirements of the patient.
Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the supporting tissues of the teeth caused by specific microorganisms or groups of specific microorganisms resulting in progressive destruction of the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone with pocket formation, recession, or both. Various treatment options are available in the armoury of a periodontist including surgical and non-surgical therapy. Not satisfied with traditional weapons to combat oral microbiota and restore lost alveolar bone support, ingenious clinicians, scientists, and researchers have turned toward novel and sometimes exotic avenues and explored new frontiers of physical laws, pharmacological molecules, and new concepts as available for other medical situations. Nonsurgical periodontal therapy (NSPT) is the cornerstone of periodontal therapy and the first recommended approach to the control of periodontal infections. It is also known as ¿Cause-related therapy,¿ ¿Phase I therapy or Etiotrophic phase,¿ or ¿Initial therapy.¿
