A obra desmascara as desigualdades sociais perante a enfermidade.
I got into the alternative field of baking during the last 11 years of ownership because I had a mom who used to stop at my market booth almost every Saturday. She would buy an 8" brown box full of European and American pastries, but she would always ask if I had anything dairy and gluten free. I would answer no, but I would say, "I can certainly bake them!" Well, this went on for a few weeks or maybe longer, until she introduced me to her son. The request had a face, a 10-year-old, thin, blond, well- mannered kid and the only one of four children who could not eat dairy or gluten in her family. I felt terrible! I could no longer keep telling her the same story, so this is how I developed a full bakery menu that had alternative pastries, cakes, cookies, donuts, and breads. By the time the bakery was sold, my sales from alternative baking were around 30 percent of the total sales, and it had grown by solid word of mouth. I even had referrals from a local hospital. The book contains regular wheat and alternative recipes gluten free, egg free, dairy free or sugar free, and isintended to be used by anyone who enjoys sinking their teeth into tasty pastries, whether they choose to eat regular pastries or are required to eat alternative pastries to maintain health. My hope is that you will be able to find something for most palates or dietary needs, and my goal is to be inclusive of as many people as I can. Leave no one behind!

After tracing the history of humankind from Adam to David, 1 & 2 Chronicles focus on the kingdom of David as God's chosen people-and the responsibilities incumbent on them. The Chronicler's prevailing emphases are where and how the people of Israel worship and the exclusivity of worshiping God alone.Even so, rites themselves are not sufficient. God deserves not only our worship and adoration but also our obedience. Moreover, for the author of 1 & 2 Chronicles, the God-appointed kings, priests, and prophets (plus soldiers and several wives) serve as both positive and negative examples of how fidelity to God affects later individuals and nations-and, in particular, the people of postexilic Judah. Through this ancient text, Christians can learn valuable lessons about authentic worship and heartfelt obedience.
Ezra-Nehemiah describes events that occurred between 539 and 432 BCE, but the book itself was written between that latter date and about 200 BCE. Though it describes early events and perhaps incorporates authentic "memoirs" of Nehemiah, it also contains later lists, narratives, and thinking about that crucial century in the life of post-exilic Judah (or Yehud) and its neighbors. Ezra-Nehemiah dutifully records both the successes and the excesses of three waves of returnees. It opens with the efforts of early returnees to rebuild the altar at the site of the Jerusalemite temple in 538/7 and the rebuilding and dedication of the temple in 520 BCE. It records a second return under Ezra perhaps in 458, and it reaches its saddest moment in Ezra 9-10, when Ezra himself demands the divorce of returned exiles who had married local Yehudite women. Nehemiah completes the narrative of the reestablishment of exiled Jews with its discussion of the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem and other actions in 445/4 and 432 by the returnees to solidify their control over the temple, Jerusalem, and post-exilic Yehud.Written by accomplished scholars with all students of Scripture in mind, this innovative new commentary series is designed to make quality Bible study more accessible. Guided by a travel journal left behind by her husband, Carrie ventures into the frozen, open-air graveyard of the world's tallest peak. But as Sean's diary and Carrie's experiences reveal, climbing the mountain is more than a test of endurance; it's a battle of wills with an ancient and hostile force protecting the mountain--and the dead do not rest easy at the summit."--Back cover.
"Mark constitutes a well-crafted, astute theological narrative of "the good news/gospel of God" and God's just and gracious rule breaking out anew on earth through God's Messiah (Christ) and Son, Jesus of Nazareth (Mark 1:1, 9, 14-15). If we have "eyes to see and ears to hear" (4:9; 8:18) Mark's incisive message of Christ in its own images and idioms, if we mark this Gospel's words carefully and considerately, we discover a remarkable story worth engaging afresh"--
"Five intriguing and quite different compositions are gathered together in the Hebrew Bible under the name Megillot, the Hebrew word for "scrolls." They are the Song of Songs, Ruth, Lamentations, Ecclesiastes, and Esther. Ever since the scrolls of the Megillot came into existence, they have been interpreted in a myriad of ways. Mathews approaches them via the lens of Biblical Performance Criticism"--
There's nothing minor about these prophets.Over the last thirty years, scholars have begun to explore the implications of an ancient Jewish and Christian tradition that referred to the "Minor Prophets" as "the Twelve," "the Twelve Prophets," or the "Book of the Twelve." Scholarly work on the Book of the Twelve in the last quarter century has focused on two issues: (1) examining how the Book of the Twelve came to be recorded on a single scroll and (2) isolating unifying elements that transcend the individual writings and take on new significance when the Book of the Twelve becomes a single collection. Nogalski's comprehensive commentary offers an overview of the ancient traditions concerning the Book of the Twelve that lays the foundation for understanding these recent developments.Written by accomplished scholars with all students of Scripture in mind, this innovative new commentary series is designed to make quality Bible study more accessible. Returning to the ground of the highly successful first volume in the Smyth & Helwys Bible Commentary, Walter Brueggemann's 1 & 2 Kings, scholar, writer, and preacher Tony Cartledge explores the beginnings of kingship in Israel. From the counsel of Samuel through the determination of Saul to the towering figure of David, this commentary thoughtfully considers the debt that our religious and literary heritage owes to the books of 1 and 2 Samuel. Cartledge describes and analyzes the events in these books as central to the preservation of the traditions that influence the remainder of the Hebrew and Christian Bibles. Written in commentary form with the addition of numerous insights and visuals drawn from the worlds of art, archaeology, literature, history, and geography, 1 & 2 Samuel opens up the biblical text in signficant and faithful ways.Written by accomplished scholars with all students of Scripture in mind, this innovative new commentary series is designed to make quality Bible study more accessible. Four popular novelists of the same generation each wrote a novel inspired by a holiday that the author spent in France. In the nineteen-fift ies, Rumer Godden basedThe Greengage Summeron her recollections of her family's 1923 battlefield- tour manqué in the Champagne region. Margery Sharp's 1936 holiday in Southern France led toStill WatersandThe Nutmeg Tree: both the short story and the novel are set in and around the region of Aix-les-Bains. In 1955, Daphne du Maurier first visited the department of Sarthe to research French family history; the novelThe Scapegoatwas the immediate result of the holiday. And in 1966, Stella Gibbons' last trip to the continent took the form of a visit to an old friend in her summer home near Grenoble. The stay is obliquely refl ected in The Snow-Woman, in which a similar holiday leads a never-married septuagenarian to experience a renaissance of sorts.

We are all perpetually holding ourselves together. Our breath, our blood, our food, our spit, our shit, our thoughts, our attention-all tightly held, all the time. Then at death we let it all out, oozing at once into the earth and gasping at last into the ether. The physical body has often been seen as a prison, as something to be escaped by any means necessary: technology, mechanization, drugs and sensory deprivation, alien abduction, Rapture, or even death and extinction. Taking in horror movies from David Cronenberg and UFO encounters, metal bands such as Godflesh, ketamine experiments, AI, and cybernetics, Escape Philosophy is an exploration of the ways that human beings have sought to make this escape, to transcend the limits of the human body, to find a way out.As the physical world continues to crumble at an ever-accelerating rate, and we are faced with a particularly 21st-century kind of dread and dehumanization in the face of climate collapse and a global pandemic, Escape Philosophy asks what this escape from our bodies might look like, and if it is even possible.Roy Christopher is an aging BMX and skateboarding zine kid. That's where he learned to turn events and interviews into pages with staples. He has since written about music, media, and culture for everything from self-published zines and personal blogs to national magazines and academic journals.
