Inspired by the Dutch sculptor Joseph Mendes da Costa (1863-1939) and Ernst Barlach (1870-1938), Hans Wewerka(1888-1915) conquered the realm of figurative sculpture while he was still a student in Höhr, an unusual discipline among thearea's vernacular ceramics. He observed society outside [draußen in German], in all realms of public life, with great sensibility: gossip mongers, potato sellers, a dancing couple. Wewerka created likenesses taken from real life. His artistic approach and his acute awareness of form made him an exceptional creator of modern earthenware who had already gained international recognition during his lifetime. This first, comprehensive monograph featuring a catalogue of works documents Hans Wewerka's hitherto unknown career and traces his connections to modernist art, such as the Berlin Secession and artists like Rudolf Bosselt, Käthe Kollwitz, and Ernst Barlach.

The Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna holds a unique collection of Italian maiolica from the fifteenth to the eighteenthcentury, which is now being published almost in its entirety for the very first time. Maiolica tableware, Italy's luxury export,spread to the courts of northern Europe from the early sixteenth century. Today, the MAK's holdings from former imperial, ecclesiastical, aristocratic, and private ownership enter into a dialogue with maiolica from well-known Austrian and Central European collections. Timothy Wilson, professor emeritus at Balliol College Oxford and former Keeper of Western Art at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, and Rainald Franz, curator at MAK, together with other experts provide an extensive insight into the development of maiolica in its cultural and historical context. Thus a scholarly exploration of one of the best collections of maiolica in the world has thus now been scientifically examined for the very first time.

1955 wurden vierundsiebzig Gipsobjekte, die Skulpturen von Edgar Degas (1834-1917) zeigen, in die alte Gießerei Valsuani inParis gebracht, um dort erst 2004 wieder entdeckt zu werden. Diese Arbeiten werden nun zum ersten Mal veröffentlicht, wobei neue dokumentarische und wissenschaftliche Beweise für ihre Datierung vorgelegt werden, nachdem der Zustand der Wachsformen von Degas zum Zeitpunkt seines Todes eingehend untersucht worden war. Technische und dokumentarische Beweise belegen nun, dass die Hälfte der seriellen "Hébrard"-Bronzen von Degas, die sich heute in Museen und Privatsammlungen auf der ganzen Welt befinden, in den 1950er- und 1960er-Jahren in der Gießerei Valsuani produziert wurden - lange Zeit nach der Schließung der Gießerei Hébrard 1935/1936. Jedes der nun gereinigten vierundsiebzig Gipsobjekte von Degas ist in diesem wissenschaftlichen Werkverzeichnis ganzseitig in Farbe abgebildet.
