The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was introduced on December 2, 1970 by President Richard Nixon. The collections contained within the Combined Arms Research Library Digital Library are largely composed of digital versions of paper documents from the Combined Arms Research Library collections and student papers produced at the US Army Command and General Staff College. The documents in this collection cover the areas on the Vietnam Conflict, Korean War, and the U.S. Civil War, to name a few. This is one of those documents.

This slide presentation reports on the current status of Magnetar observations, and on the results combining multi-satellite. Magnetars are magnetically powered neutron stars. There is discussion about several Soft Gamma Repeaters (SGR) also known as Magnetars, though there aer other neutron stars that may be considered as magnetars (i.e., Anomalous X-ray Pulsars (AXPs) Dim Isolated Neutron Stars (DINs) Compact Central X-ray Objects (CCOs) Rotation Powered Pulsars.) An example of a Rotation Powered PSRs, (i.e., PSR J1846-0258) is reviewed, and examples of SGRs are reviewed (i.e., SGR 0501+4516, SGR 0501+4516, SGR J1550-5418, and SGR 0418+5729). There is also discussion about Photospheric Radius Expansion (PRE) in thermonuclear bursts.

Since 2002, the dollar has depreciated against a broad basket of currencies and against the euro. This depreciation has prompted some observers to question whether the "cheap" dollar is leading to a "fire sale" of U.S. firms, especially of those firms that can be identified as part of the Nation's defense industrial base. Congress has displayed a long and continuing interest in foreign direct investment and its impact on the U.S. economy. Since September 11, 2001, Congress has demonstrated a heightened level of concern about the impact of foreign direct investment in critical industries or in sectors that are vital to homeland security. In the 110th Congress, Members are considering H.R. 556, the National Security Foreign Investment Reform and Strengthened Transparency Act of 2007, which was adopted by the full House on February 28, 2007. The measure reflects a heightened level of concern about the presence of foreign investors in the economy by increasing Congressional oversight over federal reviews of foreign direct investment and by expanding the current areas of review to include homeland security and critical infrastructure.

The Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) series is prepared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Often called "the voice of CDC," the MMWR series is the agency's primary vehicle for scientific publication of timely, reliable, authoritative, accurate, objective, and useful public health information and recommendations. These reports discuss topics suck as Anthrax, Tobacco Use, Rabies, Hepatitis, and much more. The documents are very valuable to physicians, nurses, public health practitioners, epidemiologists and other scientists, researchers, educators, and laboratory technicians. This is one of their publications.

The United States Government Printing Office (GPO) was created in June 1860, and is an agency of the U.S. federal government based in Washington D.C. The office prints documents produced by and for the federal government, including Congress, the Supreme Court, the Executive Office of the President and other executive departments, and independent agencies. A hearing is a meeting of the Senate, House, joint or certain Government committee that is open to the public so that they can listen in on the opinions of the legislation. Hearings can also be held to explore certain topics or a current issue. It typically takes between two months up to two years to be published. This is one of those hearings.

The promotion of recreation and tourism has been both praised and criticized as a rural development strategy. This study uses regression analysis to assess the effect of recreation and tourism development on socioeconomic conditions in rural recreation counties. The findings imply that recreation and tourism development contributes to rural well-being, increasing local employment, wage levels, and income, reducing poverty, and improving education and health. But recreation and tourism development is not without drawbacks, including higher housing costs. Local effects also vary significantly, depending on the type of recreation area.

The Review of Foreign Developments (RFD) series begins in 1945 and ends in 1975. Starting in August 1971, papers in the RFD series also appear in the International Finance Discussion Paper (IFDP) series. These topics are focused on, though by no means limited to, international macroeconomics, international trade, global finance, financial institutions, and markets, as well as international capital flows. The analyses and conclusions set forth in the RFD series are those of the authors and do not indicate concurrence by other members of the research staff or the Board of Governors.

This talk was presented by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geologist Susan Hall on May 11, 2009, at the Uranium 2009 conference in Keystone, Colorado, and on May 12, 2009, as part of an underground injection control track presentation at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Environmental Trade Fair and Conference in Austin, Texas. Texas has been the location of the greatest number of uranium in-situ recovery (ISR) mines in the United States and was the incubator for the development of alkaline leach technology in this country. For that reason, the author chose to focus on the effectiveness of restoration at ISR mines by examining legacy mines developed in Texas. The best source for accurate information about restoration at Texas ISR mines is housed at the TCEQ offices in Austin. The bulk of this research is an analysis of those records.

The Federal Reserve Archival System for Economic Research (FRASER) started in 2004 as a data preservation and accessibility project of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. FRASER's mission is to safeguard and provide easy access to the nation's economic history-particularly the history of the Federal Reserve System-through digitization of documents related to the U.S. financial system. FRASER preserves and provides access to economic and banking data and policy documents. To this end, various types of documents have been digitized, including: publications of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, publications of District Federal Reserve Banks, states and speeches of Federal Reserve policymakers, archival materials of Federal Reserve policymakers, government data publications, statistical releases, books and Congressional hearings.

The Department of Transportation (USDOT or DOT) is a federal cabinet department of the United States government. The office's main concerns are those associated with transportation and transportation needs across the country. Established in 1967, the DOT is administered by the United States Secretary of Transportation. Some of the DOT's larger agencies include the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the Maritime Administration (MARAD), and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The Department of Transportation and its agencies create numerous publications each year to educate the public about certain areas of transportation, new technology in the field, and the histories of the agencies and the department.

The Learn-Ed Nations Inventory was designed by a panel of American Indian and Alaska Native master educators to determine how and to what extent a school is serving Native students and supporting their needs. The inventory encompasses all factors impinging on students, both directly and indirectly. Nine key school areas were identified to be inventoried: (1) visioning, planning, and school improvement; (2) administrative leadership; (3) parents and community; (4) school-wide behavioral climate and policies; (5) instructional practices; ( 6 ) assessment; (7) professional development; (8) facilities; and (9) resources. For each area, indicators are presented and are to be rated on a continuum from significant to not present or not applicable. Space is provided to note the specific evidence used to gauge each indicator. This is a useful feature because if questions arise, those involved can refer to these sources again for clarification or to determine whether the source of evidence was adequate. There is space provided in each area for descriptions of strengths and areas needing improvement. Once the information is gathered, it is intended that the school community engage all stakeholders in a dialogue to share opinions, achieve a deeper understanding of the issues, and determine whether they are traveling along or straying from the improvement path for American Indian and Alaska Native students. Resources include 98 print materials and 28 web sites. The inventory forms are included.

Congressional Committee Prints are publications issued by Congressional Committees that include topics related to their legislative or research activities. The prints are a fine resource for statistical and historical information, and for legislative analysis. The topics of these Prints vary greatly due to the different concerns and actions of each committee. Some basic categories of Congressional Committee Prints are: situational studies, draft reports and bills, hearings, directories, statistical materials, investigative reports, historical reports, confidential staff reports, and legislative analyses.

The United States Department of Labor (DOL) is a part of the U.S. Government that is responsible for the occupational safety, wage and hour standards, unemployment insurance benefits, re-employment services, and much more. The purpose of the DOL is to assist citizens in work related situations: conditions, advancement opportunities, profitability, benefits, and rights. To enforce their mission, the Department of Labor has more than 180 federal laws. The Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) is part of the DOL, and is there to protect the interests of all employee benefit pans. On a regular basis reports and other publications are published for consumer use; this is one of those reports.

This publication supersedes AIMD-98-110, Executive Guide: Leading Practices in Capital Decision-Making, April 1998. GAO published a guide: (1) summarizing the 12 fundamental practices that have been successfully implemented by organizations recognized for their outstanding capital decisionmaking practices; and (2) providing examples from which the federal government may be able to draw lessons and ideas.

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research, development and evaluation agency of the US Department of Justice.
