Toward the end of the twentieth century, in art as well as ritual studies, cultural turns contributed to elaborating a broad definition of ritual and rituality. Rituality is now generally regarded as one of the master keys to understanding not only cultures in general but also arts in particular. Poetic rituality sheds light on the liminal characteristics of the art form and references to ritual practices, ritual forms and structures that are set in motion in a way that allows special aesthetic characteristics and semantic aspects to arise. The contributors to the volume - theatre and literary studies scholars as well as students from Yale, Bielefeld, Károli University, and the Grotowski Institute - had the opportunity to share their related works in the course of several recent international academic events.

This book represents the first comprehensive publication on the development of the Guinean mining sector from 2016 to 2020. This period witnessed a record investment of $6.2 billion and implemented reforms that laid the foundations for unprecedented growth. Beyond presenting the facts, the author delves into the major issues and challenges faced by the sector, along with the initiatives taken to address them. Through a combination of facts, events, analyses, and personal anecdotes, the author, who led the Ministry of Mines for five years and eight months, provides insights that allow readers to grasp the complexities of the industry, understand its dynamics, and envision its role in the national and international context, where Guinea is increasingly becoming a significant player.

The book analyzes the novel Ordained by the Oracle through socio-cultural, symbolic and anthropological frameworks. It examines funeral rituals, the duality between the visible and invisible worlds, and the role of the oracle, spirits and ancestors in society. The study sheds light on the notions of space, time, myth and reality in the Akan society. It demonstrates that literature crosses disciplinary boundaries and can be seen as a form of anthropology. The analysis will be of interest to students and researchers in African studies, literature, religion, culture, sociology, and anthropology.

The study of history in Cameroon has most of the time been national and political. In our school textbooks and university courses, there is hardly an emphasis on local contents mastery. This has had implications for the articulation of grassroots research and local contents. Cameroon: Historical Perspectives on Borders, Conflicts, Peace and Governance is an authoritative volume which draws its place in Cameroons historiography from the originality of the historical evidence presented and from the subaltern perspectives adopted. The book, in the majority speaks to local history. It not only draws on local contents but captures the role of local agents and phenomena in historical causation. Topics include land and boundary/border conflicts, indigenous conflict resolution, local players in historical construction, peace building, national questions and identity issues. University lecturers, teachers, researchers and Postgraduate students would find the contents most illuminating while those preparing to undertake research would find it very inspirational.

During the first COVID19 wave, the trust of Greater Paris academic hospitals (Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris) faced an unprecedented situation: a significant number of medical devices were used in extraordinary quantities and international supply chains were defective or interrupted. To overcome the risk of shortage, a team of health professionals and engineers settled a central emergency 3D-printing platform. This book tells the story of this initiative, reports its results, and proposes general guidelines for the integration of additive manufacturing in hospitals. 3D-printing has transformed our approach to the conception and production of the tools we use to treat patients. For the first time in modern history, professional production machines can be located within health institutions. 3D platforms are extraordinary boosters of innovation, research, education, and valorisation. Based on a particular story, this book investigates the paths leading to innovation in public structures and proposes guidelines for the promotion of interactions between health professionals and engineers.

Charles François du Perrier, otherwise known as Dumouriez, was born at Cambrai at the peak of Louis XV's reign. A penniless but highborn French gentryman, he engaged while still in his prime in the dreadful Seven Years' War from which he returned badly wounded. As the new Revolution began to take a hold Dumouriez ingratiated himself into the royal close circle until the king appointed him as his Minister for Foreign Affairs, but his astute counsel failed to protect Louis from his eventual downfall. A period of warring on France's national frontiers resulted in Dumouriez taking full command of the North' and the full glory of the great victories of the dual battles of Valmy and Jemmappes. However the suspicious of the Jacobins by now in power in Paris were aroused and incited them to have him arrested and face the guillotine. He succeeded in evading their clutches by abandoning army and country, preferring exile elswhere in Europe and in England where he died.

One of the internationally recognised research fields of the Department of Mongolian and Inner Asian Studies (Eötvös Loránd University) is the multilateral studies of various aspects of Mongolian Buddhism. This topic appears already in Gábor Bálint of Szentkatolna's (1844 1913) the first Hungarian Mongolist's linguistic materials, recorded among the Kalmyks in Astrakhan (1871) and the Mongols in Urga (1873). His materials are invaluable sources of 19th-century Mongolian Buddhism. The topic became one of the major academic subjects of Louis (Lajos) Ligeti (1902 1987), the founder of our Department and establisher of the philological research and philology-based education of Mongolian religious, historical and linguistic sources. We, the second and third generations of disciples, adherently follow his traditional methodology, nevertheless try to introduce new research approaches, as in the conference in 2019 and the present volume: i. e. the aspects of ¿tradition, invented tradition and innovation¿. The theme of the third conference (2019) and the present collection of articles is a topical one as it is closely connected to such social, political and cultural phenomena as ¿country branding¿, ¿country image¿, ¿cultural branding¿, all of them interwoven with the aspects of tradition, innovation and invented tradition.

The focus of this book is twofold: first, Samuel Beckett's Endgame, its genesis and post-publication development, and second, the reception of his dramas in Hungary. There are, of course, overlaps between the two topics, for example, György Kurtág's Fin de partie opera, István Paál's first stage direction of Endgame in Hungary, or Gábor Zsámbéki's TV-recording of the play, which preceded the stage premiere. However, the real bonding agent of the book is the dramaturgy and theatricality of Beckett's work, whether it be unpublished manuscript fragment, full length play or Beckett-staging in scope. This book intends to present Beckett-productions that were the first in one way or another, either the most productive Hungarian-language Beckett-director's oeuvre, a Hungarian premiere, the first Godot-staging after 1989, the first Beckett shows in a theatre's entire programme since its foundation, or the very first Fin de partie opera. All of these involved a certain amount of risk taking, just as one would expect from opening gambits in a game of chess. This is the first time that a selection of Hungarian Endgames and other Beckett-stagings has entered the international platform of Beckett scholarship, to engage in a broader dialogue with artists, scholars, and students around the globe. ANITA RÁKÓCZY is dramaturge, theatre critic, and Lecturer at Károli Gáspár University of The Reformed Church in Hungary. She has conducted research on Samuel Beckett's Fin de partie at CUNY Graduate Centre New York as a Fulbright Scholar, and also in the University of Reading's Samuel Beckett Collection. She has worked for the Hungarian Theatre Museum and Institute and the International Theatre Institute (ITI) Hungarian Centre. She has published in Samuel Beckett Today / Aujourd'hui and the Journal of Beckett Studies. With Mariko Hori Tanaka and Nicholas Johnson, she co-edited Influencing Beckett / Beckett Influencing (Collection Károli ¿ L'Harmattan, 2020).

The European Union has been struggling with a multilevel poly-crisis, weakening popular support for European integration, over the past more than a decade. Political leaders aim to reverse these dynamics through democratising and politicising the Union in order to bring it closer to citizens. However, this runs counter to a trend of increasing political alienation among the same citizens at the national level. This is a book about troubled and troubling transformations in contemporary European societies and politics, which generate fears across the continent. Fears of disintegration at the European level, fears of disorder and instability at the national level, fears of disorientation at the individual level, fears of becoming irrelevant at the global level, and fears of the future that seems to be full of dangers and risks. The authors give an overview of public debates about key challenges ¿ regarding social inequalities, demography, migration, the ecological debt, sustainable development, democracy, communication, populism, or strategic sovereignty ¿ behind these fears, and explain alternative responses offered to them. They address university students in the first place, but also hope to shape awareness in a broader public. Today's fears, if ignored or left unanswered, have a dangerous potential to evolve into a new political era of anxiety in Europe, with a presumably devastating effect. But this is not inevitable. The future may not be as doomed as it looks at first glance.

The question of aesthetics and aesthetic experience ¿ from Agamben's first books onward, which speaks of the destruction and refoundation of aesthetics ¿ to the latest works, which are essentially commentaries of collections of paintings and poems ¿ never disappears from Agamben's theoretical horizon. According to Agamben the greatest enigma of art is that we do not know why we need art in the first place. Humans are not only thinking and talking animals, but also creatures that create artworks and find enjoyment in them too. Agamben's own answer as to what art is good for is not aesthetic but fundamentally ethical: art is inseparably part of the happy life (vita beata).Veronika Darida is philosopher, aesthete, dramaturg. She is the Chair of the Department of Aesthetics at Eötvös Lorand University. Her main research interests are contemporary philosophy and theory of art.

This collection of essays is based on presentations delivered at the international conference on Populism and Migration, held in Budapest on March 10¿11 2020. The conference formed part of a wider research project on the ¿Norms and Values in the European Migration and Refugee Crisis¿ (¿NoVaMigrä) and surveyed the period between 2014 and 2017. The conference focused on the questions of migration and populism to draw attention to the close connection between these two phenomena. The presentations and the articles devoted special attention to studying this relation during the refugee and migration crises, and their climax in the year 2015. In particular, the analyses surveyed the effect of migration on populist discourse and the strengthening of radical right-wing parties in Europe, as well as performed multifaceted investigations into the migration crisis in Hungary. Besides articles by international experts, the volume is made complete by studies from well-known Hungarian researchers.

This book is about certain risk assessment, risk analysis and risk management from a legal point of view. It discusses five different types of risks that business law needs to cope with nowadays. Some of these challenges are fairly new (artificial intelligence, AI), some are fairly old (limited liability), but they all trigger serious social challenges (like environmental concerns or social responsibility). Some problems are universal, some are global but none can be managed by the locally defined law. The controversy at hand will be decided, but the problem would not even be touched. Law, by definition, belongs to the realm and the existence of statehood, thus, the efficiency, the possibilities and the means of the law are predetermined by this relationship. In any event, risks, and not only the seldom occurrent ones, can be extremely high, and the damages can be overwhelming. Yet, when these risks come about, from a practical social point of view, it might not matter who is right and who is not.

Why do some children have dreams about one-time relatives they never met? How come that in our dreams we happen to stroll through places we have never visited before? In the book, the reader will discover a new frame of interpretation for questions like these. After analyzing hundreds of interviews, which have been at the heart of my research on families for decades, and a thorough review of international family research over the last fifty years, which has changed our understanding of the family as a basic unit of parents and children, a new theory has taken shape in my mind. I called it the extended symbolic family. From the multiple experiences of different social realities, from told or untold stories that swirl in the memory of extended families, patterns emerge that seem to impact all key decisions made by family members. The innumerable family patterns then help or hinder adaptation to changes in social space and time, and, conversely, change them as well. Based on the concepts of hybridity, time, and space, the theory combines several approaches, ranging from transgenerational to transnational families, into a single conceptual framework that may help social scientists and interested readers understand how the extended symbolic family creates continuity, stability, and flexibility in an ever-changing world. In addition to plenty of extracts from interviews, the book ends with a complete story narrated by four members of the same family: a grandfather, two of his daughters, and his grandson.

The IoT can allow consumers to utilize their mobile or smart devices to manage the security of their homes, health, finance, and life. More-over, the IoT may assist companies or factories globally optimize operations and enhance customer satisfaction by tracking their goods during shipping, location, control, and security. Although the Internet of Things (IoT) and cy-berspace provide several advantages, they are fraught with vulnerabilities, dangers, and security concerns. Hence, computer and network security are a concern for traditional security awareness organizations. Vietnam, a tiny country in Southeast Asia, is one of the world's top 20 most populous coun-tries; however, the country's information and communication technology (ICT) economy has just recently evolved. As a result, it exits many vulnerabili-ties and security holes in its network system. This research seeks answers to the following five crucial questions to determine whether Vietnam is prepared to tackle any security issues or find solutions to them: What are cyber threats? Are they potentially hazardous to Vietnam? What can Vietnam do to protect itself against cyber-attacks? How can Vietnam work with foreign groups to address these concerns? What are the advantages of Visegrád's defense methods against cyber-attacks from other countries? Which cybersecurity solutions have been adaptable to Vietnam?

The questions regarding specialized languages are important topics in applied linguistics research. A growing number of areas witness the current trend of automation, robotization and artificial intelligence (AI). Therefore, converting information into a form that can be understood by machines is of utmost importance in the future. These three technological advancements require the precise description of languages, consequently, the systematic description of the features of specialized languages is one of the current tasks of linguistics. This book discusses the changed environment of technical communication, the processes, and the legal and standardization backgrounds. The authors delved into the typological, semantic and lexical features of technical texts in the field of technical documentation, and also focused on research related to terminology, translation and text analysis, as well as their relevance in higher education in connection with documentation, content development and technical writing.

This volume discusses the relationship between translation and termi-nology as well as theory and practice in the context of research and expertise. In recent years, the translation industry has undergone major changes: the volume of texts to be translated has increased dramati-cally and the use of computer-assisted translation tools has become a basic requirement. This trend has also led to the introduction of quality assurance processes at translation agencies, the creation of terminology databases and an increase in the number of agencies now employing terminologists. For translators, learning to use new tools and methods and to solve terminological problems both in the analysis of the source text and in the production of the target text has become essential. In addition to reviewing and describing the relationship between trans-lation and terminology, this book aims to explain the basic concepts, and to explore the role of terminology and terminology databases in the translation process.
