'A Life For a Love' is a tale that begins with two sisters who are dealing with their brother's upcoming wedding to Valentine Paget. Lilias is struggling with the idea of her brother leaving to become a clergyman in London and wishes he didn't have to go. Marjory tries to console her, but Lilias is inconsolable. Despite the tension, there is a sense of love and support between the sisters, which makes this story a touching and enjoyable read. ¿The time was July, and the roses were out in great profusion in the rectory garden. The garden was large, somewhat untidily kept, but it abounded in all sweet old-fashioned flowers; there was the invariable tennis-court, empty just now, and a sweet sound of children laughing and playing together, in a hay-field near by. The roses were showering their petals all over the grass, and two girls, sisters evidently, were pacing up the broad walk in the centre of the garden arm-in-arm."

The book was first published in 1907 and reflects the author's experiences and thoughts on the pursuit of a simpler and more meaningful life. In "The Quest of the Simple Life," Dawson recounts his personal journey of rejecting the complexities of modern urban life in favor of a more rural and simple existence. Inspired by the ideas of the back-to-nature movement, he explores themes of simplicity, self-sufficiency, and a return to a more harmonious and natural way of living. Dawson's narrative is both reflective and philosophical, touching on the challenges and rewards of embracing a life removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. He explores the concept of "simple living" not just as a physical relocation but also as a mindset and philosophy that involves finding contentment in the essentials and appreciating the beauty of a less complicated existence. The book has been considered a significant work in the literature of the simple living movement and has influenced many individuals seeking an alternative to the stresses of modern life. Dawson's writing encourages readers to question societal norms and to contemplate what truly brings fulfillment and happiness in life.

Martineau wrote Household Education in 1848, lamenting the state of women's education. She believed women had a natural inclination to motherhood and believed domestic work went hand in hand with academia for a proper, well-rounded education. She stated, "I go further than most persons... in desiring thorough practice in domestic occupations, from an early age, for young girls". She proposed that freedom and rationality, rather than command and obedience, are the most effectual instruments of education. Excerpt: "Household Education is a subject so important in its bearings on every one's happiness, and so inexhaustible in itself, that I do not see bow any person whatever can undertake to lecture upon it authoritatively, as if it was a matter completely known and entirely settled. It seems to me that all that we can do is to reflect, and say what we think, and learn of one another. This is, at least, all that I venture to offer. I propose to say, in a series of chapters, what I have observed and thought on the subject of Life at Home, during upwards of twenty years' study of domestic life in great variety. It will be for my readers to discover whether they agree in my views, and whether their minds are set to work by what I say on a matter which concerns them as seriously as any in the world."

The aim and design of conversation is, therefore, pleasure. This agreed, we can determine its elements. Conversation, above all, is dialog, not monolog. It is a partnership, not an individual affair. It is listening as well as talking. Monopolizing tyrants of society who will allow no dog to bark in their presence are not conversationalists; they are lecturers. There are plenty of people who, as Mr. Benson says, "possess every qualification for conversing except the power to converse." There are plenty of people who deliver one monolog after another and call their talk conversation. The good conversationalists are not the ones who dominate the talk in any gathering. They are the people who have the grace to contribute something of their own while generously drawing out the best that is in others. They hazard topics for discussion and endeavor each to give to the other the chance of enlarging upon them. Conversation is the interchange of ideas; it is the willingness to communicate thought on all subjects, personal and universal, and in turn to listen to the sentiments of others regarding the ideas advanced.

Half a Chance is written by an American author and playwright Frederic Stewart Isham and published in 1909. This novel is a fast and enjoyable story with not too much reality in it which well compiles the general theme of Isham's work. It relates with the age-old question of nature vs nature; that given 'half a chance' a person, of whatever line, can be a noble, ethical human being and, on the other side, a gentleman of high birth can be a complete rascal. In this story Frisco Pet, an ex-prize fighter, is plaintiff of the murder of a woman of the underworld because he is spotted in her room in a drunken condition, alone with her body. In actuality Lord Ronsdale, a nobleman, had come to break with this woman, who, in a effort to blackmail him, took out a revolver which by accident went off. Frisco Pet is sent to the territories in a convict ship on which Lord Ronsdale also starts with Lord and Lady Wray and their six year old niece Jocelyn. A storm comes up but all the characters are saved and after many years there is much drama in this story and after that Wrays consent to Jocelyn's engagement with John Steele. Frederic Stewart Isham (1866-1922) was an American author and playwright, whose plays were once popular on Broadway and were made into films. His works include: History of the Detroit Light Guard (1896), The Strollers (1902), Under the Rose (1903), Black Friday (1904), Half a Chance (1909), The Social Bucaneer (1910), The Treasure (1910), A Man and His Money (1912), The Passing of Bill (1912), Aladdin from Broadway (1913), Nothing but the Truth (1914), This Way Out (1917), Three Live Ghosts (1918) and The Nut Cracker (1920).

He also discusses the role of positive thinking, perseverance, and determination in achieving success, as well as the importance of setting clear goals and taking action towards them. Throughout the book, Conwell emphasizes the importance of taking responsibility for one's own life and using one's willpower to overcome challenges and achieve success. The Key to Success is a self-help book written by Russell H. Conwell and originally published in 1917. The key to success in life is to learn from every detail of life, even from the most insignificant trivialities or aspects. The most influential men gain wisdom in every detail of their environment and that is why they succeed and lead. The book emphasizes the elements that underlie success, in which Conwell offers a series of essays or reflections on topics that seem like common sense but are worth stopping to think about. As a negative aspect, the book has not aged well and it is worth noting the negative view of the role of women in the triumph of men, sometimes blaming the failure of men on the fault of their wives. It is necessary to think about the time in which it was written and the social context, today such reflections would be unthinkable. The book consists of the following chapters:Observation: The Key to Success Who the Real Leaders Are Mastering Natural Forces Whom Mankind Shall Love Need of Orators Woman's Influence

Let us, first of all, ask ourselves, looking at the world around us, what it is that the history of the world signifies. When we read history, what does the history tell us? It seems to be a moving panorama of people and events, but it is really only a dance of shadows; the people are shadows, not realities, the kings and statesmen, the ministers and armies ; and the events-the battles and revolutions, the rises and falls of States-are the most shadow-like dance of all. Even if the historian tries to go deeper, if he deals with economic conditions, with social organisations, with the study of the tendencies of the currents of thought, even then he is in the midst of shadows, the illusory shadows cast by unseen realities. This world is full of forms that are illusory, and the values arc all wrong, the proportions are out of focus. The things which a man of the world thinks valuable, a spiritual man must cast aside as worthless. The diamonds of the world, with their glare and glitter in the rays of the outside sun, are mere fragments of broken glass to the man of knowledge. The crown of the King, the sceptre of the Emperor, the triumph of earthly power, are less than nothing to the man who has had one glimpse of the majesty of the Self. What is, then, real? What is truly valuable? Our answer will be very different from the answer given by the man of the world.

Eating healthy can be a challenge, especially when life gets busy. However, making small changes in your diet can make a big difference in your overall health and well-being. That's why committing to a year of good food can be a life-changing experience. One way to start is by incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your meals. Try adding a side salad or roasted veggies to your lunch or dinner. You can also swap out unhealthy snacks for fresh fruit or raw veggies with hummus. Another way to improve your diet is by reducing your intake of processed foods and sugary drinks. Instead, opt for whole foods like lean protein, whole grains, and unsweetened beverages. This can not only improve your physical health but also your mental clarity and energy levels. 1. Christmas Outside Of Eden This is the story the robins tell as they huddle beneath the holly on the Eve of Christmas. They have told it every Christmas Eve since the world started. They commenced telling it long before Christ was born, for their memory goes further back than men's. The Christmas which they celebrate began just outside of Eden, within sight of its gold-locked doors. 2.The Glory Of The Trenches In my book, _The Father of a Soldier_, I have already stated the conditions under which this book of my son's was produced. He was wounded in the end of June, 1917, in the fierce struggle before Lens. He was at once removed to a base-hospital, and later on to a military hospital in London. There was grave danger of amputation of the right arm, but this was happily avoided. As soon as he could use his hand he was commandeered by the Lord High Commissioner of Canada to write an important paper, detailing the history of the Canadian forces in France and Flanders. This task kept him busy until the end of August, when he obtained a leave of two months to come home. He arrived in New York in September, and returned again to London in the end of October.

They went to sleep the night before Christmas-or rather they went to bed, for sleep was long far from their bright eyes-with delightful expectations and thrills along their backs, and with little squeakings and gurglings, like so many little white mice, and if Santa Claus had not always been so very prompt in disappearing up the chimney before daybreak he must certainly have been caught. For by the time the chickens were crowing in the morning there would be an answering twitter through the house, and with a patter of little feet and subdued laughter small, white-clad figures would steal through the dim light of dusky rooms and cold passages, opening doors with sudden bursts, and shouting "Christmas gift!" into darkened chambers, at still sleeping elders. Then they would scurry away in the gray light to rake open the hickory embers and revel in the exploration of their bulging, overcrowded stockings. Not Columbus was to be envied when those discoveries were being made. What was a new world to those treasures! The thrill of the new jack-knife remains after forty years-it had four blades, each worth a province. Envy Columbus? Perish the thought!
