Sally Woolf-Wade, in her newest poetry collection, Wolf Moon Down, gives us memories of travel, far, far away, and ultimate settling at home in coastal Maine. She has profound appreciation for Maine's natural beauty, its maritime history, and its often enigmatic folks. Woolf-Wade skillfully weaves various poeticforms -ghazal, sonnet, haiku, villanelle-among free verse poems to enhance their humor or poignancy. The Wolf Moon lights a seductive path, and issuesa bold invitation that readers are privileged to accept.-Anne Johnson Mullin, author of Surface Tension and Sometimes a SonnetSarah J. Woolf-Wade's Wolf Moon Down poetry collection fulfills the promise of its title. Wolves howling in hunger apply in these poems directly to humansurvival as fellow mammals at the mercy of the cycles of the sea, the ravages of time and accident. Woolf-Wade shows in "Slack Water" that our boat balanceson the lip of time. She does not flinch to remind us how these cycles can heal both the tragedies and yearnings of our mortal natures that reveal deceasedloved ones' faces. These poems want us to remember that we are integral and intimate companions in the living on land which we do not own and the sea, which we share on our planet Earth.-Dona Luongo Stein, author of Leaving Greece, Alice in Deutshland,Heavenly Bodies, Children of the Mafiosi, host of The Poetry Show, KRFC The past lives and shimmers on Sally Woolf-Wade's pages, the way heat bendsvision over summer roads. Astute observer, she wanders lovingly among us in mid-coast Maine, catching moments that are our lives. We're all here, held inher heart's gentle eye, somehow swept, as she says, by the scent of beach roses.-Martin Steingesser, Past Poet Laureate, Portland, MaineThe poetry of Sally Woolf-Wade pulsates with honesty and alertness. The changeable sea that appears often in her work is an apt metaphor for the poemsas they touch upon tranquility and fervor, beauty and grief, solitude and empathy. She is a poet whose praise of the physical world is, at once, patient andcat-quick.-Baron Wormser, Past Poet Laureate, Maine

The following story is not about the struggle of those noble souls who once resided on that dot of island off the coast of Maine called Malaga. It is not a novel, history, or fantasy fiction; it is a modern dialogue in the form of folktales meant for those who believe in the 'connectedness' of things and the unity of mankind. There was a time as children, we believed that everything we encountered from Mom to chair to the word 'more' were all one. As our personal universe expanded we lost "touch" both literally and figuratively with truth. Human life emerged disjointed and confused, as contradiction became normal and alienation a natural condition. It is not a coincidence that I used the story of Malaga as an example of the Diaspora of the universal human soul. In 1912, in the same year of the Malaga tragedy, Alfred Wegener, a German, geologist, was formulating the idea that all of the continents on earth were one with his continental shift theory. It was the same year, Abdul'Baha, the son of the prophet-founder of the Baha'i Faith, was traveling across the Western World announcing the oneness of mankind. This small book is just the first of several volumes wherein I will tell you about the 'tunnels' that connect all of us. They are the tunnels of love, patience, trust and honor. They lay deep in the soil of our imagination. They stretch under the earth, piercing through the phantom of gases and unforgiving lava, to penetrate the ocean of the unknown that lies within all of us. I also want to acknowledge the insights of Moneveh Peters, Meridy Giles, Charles Carnegie and others in the formulation of this effort.

Mayberry is a beautiful red and black polka dotted caterpillar who lives in the woods inside a tuna fish can. Each day she travels into the woods for new leaves to eat. One day while gathering leaves Mayberry sees something up ahead inside a bush. As she gets closer she sees it is a butterfly. As she speaks with the butterfly she learns that some day when she grows up she will become a butterfly herself. Excited with this news she rushes home and falls into a deep sleep. She dreams about the butterfly she met and dreams about her being a butterfly and all the places she would travel. The next morning, she wakes up and travels into the woods to find her new friend. Along the way, she runs into her two best friends Harry and Suzie who both want her to stay and play but Mayberry is determined to find her new friend. Eventually, Mayberry finds herself standing at the edge of a meadow with many butterflies of all colors flying high in the sky, and her friend is there too. Mayberry starts to feel like she should build something important. She climbs into the log she is standing on and wraps herself inside a cocoon. When she emerges, she is a butterfly and joins the others in the sky. As time goes by she realizes that she is missing her old friends but when she goes back to them they are nowhere to be found. She flies home but is too grown to fit inside. She finds herself all alone and falls asleep crying. Awakened by the sound of people calling her name she realizes it was all just a dream and she was still a caterpillar. Mayberry climbs out of her tuna can home and goes off into the sunset with her two best friends.

The twelfth annual Goose River Anthology, 2014 is a fine collection of the best poetry, fiction, and essays submitted to us from all parts of the United States and Canada. There are over 80 talented authors represented in this volume. Many are seasoned writers while some are being published for the first time. Don't miss your chance to experience this rare treasure. Congratulations, Debbie. I have read the complete Goose River Anthology, 2013 and I think it the best ever. The quality and diversity of writing is excellent and your balance of editing is the best. I look forward to 2014. -Bob Erickson Round Pond, ME As I began reading the Goose River Anthology, 2013, some words I'd read by Sherry Plummer popped to mind. She'd said something like, "You can travel the world and never leave your chair when you read a book." I sensed that while devouring the latest anthology. I've always followed a simple formula to assess my enjoyment of a book. Basically, I noticed my unwillingness to put an outstanding book down. After nearly a decade of reading and relishing each issue of the Goose River Anthology, I felt compelled to read this 2013 issue from cover to cover. I continually hesitated to put it away. This was truly a magnificent publication. Kudos! -F. Anthony D'Alessandro Celebration, FL

Here's what others had to say about previous editions: The 'Goose River Anthology, 2014' is another edition in what has become a reader expectation of Deborah J. Benner's skilled selecting and editing of essays, poems, reflections, and short stories. As with previous anthologies, the 2014 publication provides a delightful mixture of the various genres, and it integrates the fresh and creative work of writers who explore a broad spectrum of themes. Each page renders unique portrayals of phenomena or experiences. As a contributing writer, I am both humbled and honored to be included with an array of such splendid authors. The cover photograph of the 2014 anthology joins several stunning scenes that have graced previous editions. -John T. Hagan, Springboro, OH While the first and last pieces in 'Goose River Anthology, 2014' give readers poignant, affecting visions of the ravages of war, the pages in between wrap one in the elegance of nature, the wonder of human relationships, and the bold memories without which our lives would be hollow. Each poem, essay and short story announces hope in its own unique way. -Bundy H. Boit, Penobscot, ME

"Sixty years ago there were over 90 magazines that published short fiction. Most of them also published essays and poetry. Today, it is hard to identify a mere dozen that offer an outlet for the short story and few of those offer a regular forum for essays and poetry. However, an outlet for some of the best writers in the country is now offered by such respected annual publications as the Goose River Anthology. The quality of the writing seems to get better with every issue. Get a copy and read it. You'll see what I mean." -Bill Tucker: novelist, memoirist, essayist, disciple of good short fiction, contributor to Goose River Anthology I have had poems published in the Goose River Anthology 2010 and 2011. I was very impressed with both the anthology book and working with Deborah Benner. She was easy to communicate with regarding the acceptance and finalizing the details of my poems. My friends and relatives were very pleased to receive the book as a gift. I think the book cover is very inviting to readers. The anthology has a nice selection of poetry, essays, and short stories from a large number of talented authors. It makes a good read. -Janice Babcock Wauwatosa, WI

Chronicles of Humans with Nature is a follow-up to Still Brooding on a Strong Branch; a pendulum that swings between the memories and experiences of family members and our engagement with the natural world. In this collection there are eighty na-ture and humanistic poems that honor the memory, pay tribute to, and sanctify the lives of loved ones. One of the most central and universal topics for poetry is some aspect of personal sorrow, grief, mourning or another related loss, springing from the central core of the human condition. The poems extend in rivers beyond the loss in terms of their emotional and imaginative range that one hopes will transcend and reverberate in many places. I have tried to create multi-dimensional poems-- broad and deep, models of us humans with nature, as rich as we are in the full world. Poetry writing has taught me to search for all the moments in nature and experiences where life is on the edge, where change is only a heartbeat away. It is the inevitability of change and loss that is the most somber reality of our world.

What does it mean to build a house? How can it change a life? What happens if the builder is a woman, a teacher and a writer, a woman unaccustomed to tools? How does such a woman come to build at all? What happens, then, if that first house, whose every nail is known, is sold? How does one leave such a house, leave and go on to build another? This is a building story, but more it is a story of a woman builder and those without whom she could not have built. It is about how building changed not only that woman but also her sense of what a house is, how she came to know that building houses of wood builds the house of the spirit.
