The process of adaptive bone remodeling can be described mathematically and simulated in a computer model, integrated with the finite element method. The main focus of this thesis is the implementation of a bone remodeling algorithm in MATLAB and ANSYS on the basis of FEM. The strain energy density is used as mechanical stimulus. The cortical and trabecular bone are described as continuous materials with variable density. This thesis can be divided into four main parts. The first part is due to the material properties of cortical and trabecular bone. The second part is about the remodeling theory and gives an historical review of the developed numerical approaches up to now. The implementation of the remodeling algorithm in ANSYS and MATLAB as well as its validation is topic of part three. In last main part, the algorithm is applied to a 2D FE-model of a human proximal femur.

From time immemorial, women have suffered greatly and disproportionately in comparison to their male counterpart. Most societies have been essentially patriarchal but in no area of political, social and religious life has the despicable plight of women been more conspicuously noticeable than in the aspect of inheritance. Over time, concrete efforts have been made in the Western world to stem this tide, while African societies, on the other hand, have not recorded much achievement in this area. National constitutions of African and other developing countries tend to prohibit discriminations against women in property inheritance, yet discriminatory traditional and customary practices persist. International treaties are merely ratified by these countries without committed implementation. This paper is posed to interrogate existing practices and laws in African and developing societies regarding the right of women to inherit property on the same footing as men in the light of developments in the Western world. At the end, recommendations are proffered so that those countries of the world which are lagging behind in treating women appropriately may have a second thought.

"e;Well, Watson, what do you make of it?"e; (Doyle 1) - Or rather: What did, and does, the media make of Arthur Conan Doyle's crime-solving character Sherlock Holmes? Without a doubt, Sherlock Holmes is one of the most famous literary figures, if not the most famous, at least in the genre of crime fiction. Holmes had his first appearance in 1887 in A Study in Scarlett, which was published in Beeton's Christmas Annual. In this story, he is introduced as the world's first and only "e;consulting detective"e;. In other words: Sherlock Holmes starts investigating when the police fail in solving the crime. (Wilson) Since his introduction he has had other appearances in numerous stories of Doyle, countless pastiches and he has literally taken over the media landscape. Among these appearances in the media, there are two TV shows contrasting from all the other Holmes adaptations. On the one hand, there is Elementary. It is set in New York and the American actress Lucy Liu plays Holmes's assistant and friend, Dr Watson. Jonny Lee Miller plays Holmes. On the other Hand, there is the British series Sherlock. It is set in London and the role of Watson is portrayed by male actor Martin Freeman, which means that Sherlock is more oriented towards the original stories. However, both series have something in common: They transfer Doyle's stories, which are set in Victorian and Edwardian times, into the present age. In this paper, I want to compare the classic character Sherlock Holmes, as he appears in Doyle's stories and Novels, with the main character Sherlock Holmes of BBC's TV series Sherlock. The literary basis for my analysis will be the novel the Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and of course the TV series Sherlock. The first part of this paper will consist of a characterisation of the classic Sherlock Holmes. The second part will be an analysis of the main character of Sherlock. In the course of this paper, I want to provide the answer to the question: Who is the bigger freak, if any of them is one at all?

In this small research paper, as one of the members of HSBC's Asset and Liability Committee, I am going to assess the bank's performance of over the last four years. Some of the key aspects considered in this paper are analyzing some of its risk exposures and assessing the impact of the major strategic choices the bank has made. HSBC is one of the leading multinational banking and financial services organizations in the world. With the headquarters located in London, the United Kingdom, the bank has been operating around 7200 offices across 85 countries in the world (HSBC, 2011). Analyze the bank's profit performance for the period 2007-2011 using financial statements and ratio analysisRatio analysis is one of the popular methods used to understand the relationship between various items in the financial statements as well as to understand the operational performance and financial position of an organization (Giacomino and Mielke, 1993).

Im Rahmen ihrer Therapeutentatigkeit ist die Autorin vor einigen Monaten von Pflegekraften gefragt worden: Wie konnen Kontrakturen befundet und dokumentiert werden und wo kann man - Jahre nach der Ausbildung - zeitsparend nachschlagen, wie die praktische Ausfuhrung (Grifftechniken und Bewegungsrichtungen) aussehen sollte?"e;Eine Internet- und Literaturrecherche ergab, dass es viele Bcher und zunehmend auch Abschlussarbeiten von Studierenden der Pflegewissenschaften zum Thema Kontrakturprophylaxe gibt. Allerdings behandeln diese Bcher bzw. Arbeiten das Thema entweder als eines unter vielen Prophylaxethemen oder eher unter dem Aspekt der pflegerischen Strategien und bleiben damit mehr oder weniger theoretisch. Die Vermittlung der Kenntnisse zur Kontrakturprophylaxe ist fester Bestandteil der Ausbildung aller Pflegeberufe. Doch im Pflegealltag ist aufgrund von Personalknappheit und Zeitdruck zu beobachten, dass diese erworbenen Kenntnisse oftmals nicht ausreichend eingesetzt und dadurch wieder verlernt werden. Die Auswirkungen von Kontrakturen reichen von der Einschrnkung einzelner Bewegungen bis zur Unfhigkeit, komplexe Bewegungsablufe auszuben und mnden damit im ungnstigsten Falle im Verlust der Selbstndigkeit und Selbstbestimmtheit. Da die Autorin an einer Fachschule fr Altenpflege seit ber 11 Jahren vorwiegend praktisch unterrichtet - unter anderem auch Kontrakturprophylaxe -, kam die Idee zu dem vorliegenden Buch auf. Es ist ein Buch mit vielen Informationen rund um die Kontrakturprophylaxe und vor allem vielen Bildern zur Praxisanleitung geworden. Dieses Buch soll allen Pflegenden eine Hilfe in der praktischen Durchfhrung und bei der Dokumentation sein. Aber auch Physio- und Ergotherapeuten (bzw. Schler) knnen das Buch als Refresher-Kurs"e; betrachten und vielleicht den einen oder anderen Praxis-Tipp fr sich entdecken.

The UN flowered thereafter as it became a catalyst for change in response to humanitarian crises and the propensity of war. Social services developed around the world thanks to the organization, and conflict resolution became a key facet of the intergovernmental agency. The United Nations in its current state is subject to much scrutiny. Despite its strength in its work in protecting and serving the needs of humanity and functioning as mediatory power for international conflict resolution, the UN does falter as a "world government" as it heralds little hegemony and is ineffective at being a progressive power.
