French Text The war of 1914-1918 immediately evokes images of the trenches of the Western front where the conflict raged, but this was only one facet of the overall conflagration. This complex conflict shook the world in three dimensions: air war; land war in the Balkans, Italy, Turkey, and the Middle East; but also naval war in the Atlantic, the South Pacific, and the Indian Oceans. The Atlas of the First World War is an indispensable visual reference for understanding the conflict. It allows the reader to monitor the campaigns and battles in the minutest detail, on land, at sea and in the air, and to study the fortunes of the combatants. More than 180 color images cover the entire theaters of operation. Each of these documents has been specially made according to the records of the author and adapted for the French-speaking public. Some offer a global perspective while others dissect the course of the fighting. A brief historical summary replaces cards in their context, to provide to the reader, whether a simple enthusiast or a serious student of military history, an incomparable reference tool.
