To understand the current status of the research and development as well as to provide a forum to exchange information on structural materials for HLM cooled reactors, the IAEA organised a technical meeting. This resulted in the current publication.
Provides an overview of the technical issues related to wet and dry storage of spent fuel and summarizes the objectives and major findings of the research carried out within the framework of the an IAEA coordinated research project.
Provides a comprehensive summary of experiences and results collected at a series of technical meetings of Member States currently operating CANDU-type nuclear power plants. Special emphasis is placed on supporting future harmonization in the regulatory framework, level 1 PSA methodologies and tools and level 1 PSA scope.
Provides practical guidance on the application of a graded approach in regulating the safety of radiation sources. Examples of applying this approach in some Member States are included. The proposed methodologies promote a systematic and consistent approach to regulating in accordance with the IAEA safety standards.
Developed in view of the growing interest from Member States in subcritical assemblies (SCAs). The publication supplements the IAEA safety standards by providing practical information on safety in the design and operation of SCAs. It also provides information on and examples of utilizing SCAs for various types of research and training experiments.
Presents the outputs of the INPRO collaborative project ROADMAPS. The publication introduces the concept of roadmapping for enhanced nuclear energy sustainability, which has been developed over the course of several collaborative projects within INPRO.
Describes the potential radionuclide production routes using cyclotrons in different energy ranges and provides methods for the development of targets and provides details of the chemistry for the separation of radionuclides from target materials.
Provides recommendations and guidance on the possible format and content of safety analysis reports (SARs) to be developed in support of requests to regulatory bodies for authorization to construct and/or to operate a nuclear power plant.
This annual publication contains estimates of energy, electricity and nuclear power trends up to the year 2050, using a variety of sources, such as the IAEA's Power Reactor Information System and data prepared by the United Nations.
Addresses relevant aspects of foreign material management for nuclear power plants, including the roles of all stakeholders at various stages during the lifetime of a nuclear power plant. The report shares knowledge on challenges, solutions and good practices based on operating experience.
Protocolos de control de calidad para radiodiagnostico en America Latina y el Caribe considera y actualiza procedimientos tecnicos, de acuerdo con la evolucion e incorporacion de nuevas tecnologias en la region.
Presents a detailed overview of the different concepts of fast small and medium sized or modular reactors (SMRs) and highlights the technological, economic and safety potential of these reactors and the associated innovative systems.
Provides various methodologies for tracking and trending nuclear power plant (NPP) thermal performance. The publication describes the essential elements of a thermal performance programme, providing guidelines on the design of the balance of the plant systems for new build NPPs and improvements to an existing programme for operating NPPs.
Provides standard operating procedures for managing crop phenotyping in controlled/semi-controlled environments and natural field conditions. The publication will support IAEA Member States in the application of these procedures to increase the productivity of arable food crops to help withstand the impact of climate change on agriculture.
Presents the results of the INPRO collaborative project: Proliferation Resistance and Safeguardability Assessment (PROSA) Tools. The PROSA assessment process has been developed to specifically address the needs of national self-assessors performing an INPRO Nuclear Energy System Assessment of sustainability.
Reviews the status and trends in the development of pyrometallurgical processes and technologies for processing spent nuclear fuel and identifies gap areas requiring further development.
From 1998 to 2006, the IAEA conducted a coordinated research project (CRP) to assess aircraft accident frequency and severity in the context of Type C package test requirements. This publication presents the outcome of the original research conducted under the CRP.
Provides Member States with comprehensive guidance on nuclear power plant operator training and describes the use of simulators in training and qualification programmes for the personnel. Current trends in the use of simulators in training programmes, as well as approaches to maintaining and upgrading simulators, are also presented.
Provides recommendations to regulatory bodies, nuclear power plant designers and licensees on hazard assessment (including for combinations of hazards) and design concepts for protection against internal hazards in nuclear power plants, in order to meet the requirements established in IAEA Safety Standards Series No. SSR 2/1 (Rev. 1).
Technology Roadmap for Small Modular Reactor Deployment
Provides a model academic curriculum covering the spectrum of nuclear security topics for a master's degree programme or for an academic certificate programme in nuclear security. The publication takes into account the latest IAEA guidance, as well as feedback from the International Nuclear Security Education Network community and other experts.
Follows the principle of continuous quality improvement and reflects new scientific developments. QUANUM 3.0 draws on valuable lessons learned from more than a decade of global implementation of QUANUM with the assistance of experienced nuclear medicine professionals.
Provides recommendations on the establishment of an appropriate regulatory framework for the management of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) residues in an integrated manner and using a graded approach.
This is the 33rd edition of Reference Data Series No.2, which presents the most recent reactor data available to the IAEA. It contains summarized information as of the end of 2012 on power reactors operating, under construction, and shut down; and performance data on reactors operating in the IAEA Member States, as reported to the IAEA.
Provides detailed guidance on developing, implementing, and integrating computer security as a key component of nuclear security. This guidance applies to computer security aspects of nuclear security and its interfaces with nuclear safety and with other elements of a State's nuclear security regime.
In accordance with the relevant IAEA safety standards, this publication describes how a graded approach can be applied to post-closure safety assessment for the disposal of disused sealed radioactive sources in boreholes.
Addresses the challenges faced and the ongoing needs of Member State organizations which have been implementing and maintaining post-Fukushima actions. The publication discusses the actions taken (or to be taken), good practices and describes effective solutions to issues in implementation, verification, qualification and maintenance.
The primary objective of this publication is to present the experiences of selected Member States that are in the process of building or expanding their regulatory framework for a nuclear power programme, including the challenges they faced.
