Plurale Autorschaften und Schwierigkeiten der Zuschreibung sind in den unterschiedlichsten historischen Kontexten zu finden: bei römischen Grabinschriften, im Theater der Shakespearezeit, in Künstler:innenkollektiven der Gegenwart, auf digitalen Plattformen für kreatives Schreiben und im Gebrauch von Tools wie ChatGPT. Dennoch sind griffige Konzepte für Formen der Zusammenarbeit,Zuarbeit und für gemeinsame kreative Aktivität in den Literatur-, Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaften gerade erst im Entstehen begriffen. Die Beiträge dieses Heftes nähern sich mit Konzepten pluraler Autorschaft stichprobenartig einigen Erscheinungsweisen, kulturellen Kontexten und Auswirkungen kollaborativer, verteilter, unsicherer oder mittelbarer Autorschaft an und diskutieren Prozesse des Fortschreibens und Zuschreibens.

Berendsohn, der als Gründungsvater der Exilforschung gilt, im Jahr 1946. Zwar ist seine Vorstellung, die Exilliteratur sei »eine in sich geschlossene Periode der deutschen Literaturgeschichte«, in der Forschung heute nicht mehr anerkannt. Doch beruht sie auf einer noch immer weitgehend gültigen Annahme: Die Schriftsteller im Exil beriefen sich auf gemeinsame Werte, unabhängig davon, in welchem Ausmaß sie sich dessen bewusst waren und was genau sie unter >Humanismus< verstanden.Der vorliegende Band widmet sich dem Wunsch deutschsprachiger Schriftsteller und Intellektueller, diese Werte zu bewahren, aufrechtzuerhalten und neu zu interpretieren, und zeigt, auf welche humanistischen und aufklärerischen Traditionen und Repräsentanten sie dabei zurückgriffen. Welche Ideale und Vorstellungen liegen ihren Ansichten zugrunde? In the scholarship specifically focused on Schopenhauer's philosophy,this book stands out due to a breadth and depth of knowledgenot found elsewhere in English or German texts. Its originality liesin its detailed portrayal of the lines of reception from Schopenhauerto Nietzsche, Deussen and Freud. First, it demonstrates convincinglyhow specific points in Nietzsche's philosophy were determined directlyby Schopenhauer's work. Second, the book provides the richestavailable account of Deussen's philosophical-religious project. Third,it argues meticulously for Schopenhauer's significant influence onFreud's thought. Freud did not reject completely or agree superficiallywith Schopenhauer, but endeavoured to carry forward and modify hispredecessor's ideas. The section on Freud is likely to have long-lastinginfluence within scholarly circles.Nietzsche scholars, intellectual historians with an interest in the nineteenthcentury, and Freud scholars will all find the book valuable. Additionally,specialists in Schopenhauer's philosophy and those interestedin the European reception of Indian thought and the history ofreligion in the nineteenth century will also read it with interest.

When one is poor and black, it is hard »to come into representation«(Hall, New Ethnicities 164). Those on the margins of society are usuallytalked and written about rather than given a voice of their own.Young black men in particular are stereotyped as criminal and violent,as dangerous threats to society. In this context the term >underclassunderclassblack youth< are scrutinised and challenged.Within the field of black British fiction, black >underclass< subjectivitiesseem to be somewhat overlooked in literary representations; andthey only appear on the margins of academic research. This study aimsat improving this situation by providing a comprehensive analysis ofthe representational strategies employed by the selected black Britishnovels as well as discussing the conditions under which black Britishauthors and their work are perceived and marketed by the publishingindustry. The analysis draws attention to the way in which structuralracism, classism and sexism impact protagonists and authors alike.

As the motto »To the matters themselves!« (Zu den Sachen selbst!)shows, Husserl's phenomenology seeks to ground philosophy and thesciences on a solid foundation by going back to things themselves asconcrete matters. Ever since the publication of Husserl's Logical Investigationsin the year 1900/1911 that launched the phenomenologicalmovement, there have been many interpreters who believe that Husserl'sphenomenology is abstract and monistic. The aim of this bookis to correct these interpretations by showing that it is a concrete andpluralistic philosophy.Discussing some basic themes such as intentionality, transcendentalgenesis, transcendental subjectivity, the life-world, the relationshipbetween philosophy and empirical disciplines, and the issue of firstphilosophy and metaphysics, this book explains how the topic of >TheConcrete and the Plural< guided Husserl in developing his phenomenologyfrom the beginning to the end and develops phenomenologyinto a more concrete and more pluralistic philosophy than any otherphilosophy that has appeared up until now.

Multi-narratives are artifacts that juxtapose single narratives. This arrangement creates a productive tension within the artifact that is larger than the sum of its parts. Reading multi-narratives is a twofold process: first, distinct local narratives within a work often create disruption and incongruity. Second and at the same time, this heterogeneity invites a 'bringing together' or 'making sense of' the relationship among the constituent narratives. In several close-readings, this volume explores key aspects of such multi-narrative interplay in works by Kate Atkinson, Julian Barnes, Louise Erdrich, Jackie Kay, Richard McGuire, Cynthia Ozick and Lionel Shriver.

Both the United States and Canada are immigrant countries whose national mythologies and national identities have been the subject of much discussion - albeit for different reasons. Whereas the United States is famous for its various national myths and its strong national identity, Canada has for a long time been known for the contrary. Unlike their southern neighbors, Canadians were said to lack a common mythology and have for a long time struggled to define their national identity. Nevertheless, myths have played a decisive role in the construction of both national narratives. This book comparatively analyzes how national myths like the American Dream or the Canadian myth of survival have not only shaped the two profoundly different national identities but also the two unique multicultural ideals commonly known as the American melting pot and the Canadian multicultural mosaic. Individual national myths existing in the United States and Canada are investigated with a focus on their respective interdependencies with the two countries' approaches to their multiculturality. This book thus both juxtaposes the two North American mythologies and provides new insights into the interrelations of national myths and multiculturalism, answering questions such as »How has American exceptionalism contributed to the ideal of e pluribus unum?« or »How does Canada's myth of North relate to the country's self-image as a multicultural nation?«

Scheler claimed that "ultimately ethics is 'a damned bloody affair', and if it can give me no directives concerning how 'I' 'should' be and live now in this social and historical context, then what is it?" This remark could be fully understood as Scheler's response to Socrates' question he asked in Platon's Politeia, and the only change Scheler made here is to use the first person 'I'. In this sense, therefore, Scheler's phenomenology of person or phenomenological normative ethics is manifested in a sort of Socratism. This book will focus on discussing Scheler's answer to this question, and on that basis, reveal the potential forms of a phenomenological normative ethics. It shows that Scheler's ethics terminates not in a normative theory that posits a table of values or a table of commandments to which a per­son must con­form, but a kind of individualist personalism, where I stand in solidarity with my fellows and seek to become the high­est person I can be.

Ilse Aichinger was born to a Jewish mother in Vienna in 1921. Prior to 1938 her Aunt Klara waited for the family in London, but only Ilse's twin sister, Helga, escaped on the last Kindertransport. Ilse remained. She survived, and published The Greater Hope in 1948. The novel reflects Ilse Aichinger's experience of anti-Semitism as young woman in Nazi Austria, and through her extraordinary use of language the author not only captures the horror and the humanity of that experience, but transcends it to offer a profound meditation on a greater hope, the metaphysical perspectives of which surpass the physical trajectories of devastation, deportation and death.Many authors have endeavoured to determine the sense and meaning of Aichinger's works, which are often considered complex and multi-layered. This may explain why one of Austria's most gifted authors has not yet received the international recognition she deserves.The Nachwort to this new translation casts fresh light on The Greater Hope through an original and in-depth analysis of interviews given by Aichinger throughout her life.
