Trentham Gardens Branch. The north Staffordshire Railway was widely known as 'The Knotty', owing to its emblem containing the county's curious cord symbols. The route served ' The Potteries', source of much of the nations china, and also ran through extensive pituresque countryside. The line formed part of the shortest link between London and Manchester.
Including the Navenby Route. Being on the western boundary of the Fens, the main line was able to convey much farmland output, notably sugar beet and potatoes. Many such link lines can be found on the maps. Numerous closed stations are illustrated, as is th elong lost and seldom photographed branch to RAF Cranwell.
