New York attorney Brian Bradford should have listened to the advice of both his wife and a cherished colleague at the law firm. They warned him not to take the case. The lawsuit involved a new area of law in which he had little litigation experience. He nonetheless filed the Complaint. The target Defendant was ZeiiMed, the largest managed health care company in the world, with unlimited resources. His clients were doctors seeking a multi-million dollar recovery. The damages seemed enormous and the fees irresistibly high. He was truly in over his head. Little did Brian realize that ZeiiMed was an unforgiving, vengeful and diabolical opponent that didn't merely defeat its adversaries, it conquered them. After Brian fortuitously discovered corporate documentation that disclosed the illegal trade practices of ZeiiMed, the fight for survival began. He quickly realized he didn't have a chance of succeeding in Court without the able assistance of several bright and accomplished women, all of whom were a significant presence in his life. Brian decides to fight back in a manner as ruthless as the forces unleashed by ZeiiMed. The mayhem that results has irreversible consequences to many on both sides of the battle lines. His world will never be the same again. ZeiiMed will never relent in its pursuit of Brian and the women he loves.Tom Breen published two additional Brian Bradford novels following The Complaint: The Device Trial and The Drug Tampering Trial.

Winston Williamson grapples with the realization that his personal life has become a fraud, while professionally, he's always been an imposter as the head of his father's law firm.Trapped in a profession he felt coerced into, Winston's cynicism deepens as his actions lead him down a path of moral and ethical decay. He battles his private demons: distant from his ailing father and unfaithful to his fading wife, struggling to cope with their deteriorating health. Simultaneously, jealousy fueled by his sense of inadequacy threatens his relationships within the firm.As he approaches a point of no return, Winston must decide whether to cross it or not, both in his professional and personal life. But has that moment already passed? Is redemption, or something akin to it, still possible? --"Author Rodney Nelsestuen has created a memorable central character who, for all of his many flaws, will eventually garner some sympathy from even the most hard-hearted reader. QUIET DESPERATION is a slim novella written in the first person and charting the disgruntled interior life of its protagonist, Winston Williamson, a reluctant lawyer and perpetual cynic. Williamson's inner emotional turbulence is compelling..." his "ultimate self-reckoning is a...case of negligence and embezzlement that may be about to trigger the collapse of his company... the ending (though intriguingly inconclusive) centers Williamson's moment of truth and rewards the reader's patience." - Kent Lane for Indie Reader

  • af Tha Chhay
    156,95 kr.

Tha Chhay's autobiography features the harrowing escapes that brought him from Cambodia to America. He is a "walking miracle" who survived Khmer Rouge's forced evacuation of the cities, escaped their forced labor camps, and became a boy merchant selling and trading items on the borders of Vietnam and Thailand. At sixteen, Tha was able to save up enough gold to hire a guide to lead him across Cambodia's land-mine infested areas to a refugee camp in Thailand. He persevered in the refugee camp for six long years before he was granted acceptance to immigrate to Seattle, Washington. His story delves into the psychology of survival and offers hope for others who need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, even if their boots have holes and no straps. Tha Chhay's testament to the horrors of the Cambodian genocide offers perspective on the current political turmoil around the world.

  • af Randall Northcutt
    180,95 kr.

Kirkus Review (Starred)This gritty coming-of-age tale novel revolves around three teenage friends and a dangerous adventure that changes them all. Set in the spring of 1969, Northcutt's story primarily focuses on 15-year-old Teddy Nutscalder, who lives in Dix Knob: "an East Texas cesspool that God forgot." Living with an abusive, alcoholic father and the memory of a wayward mother who simply up and left seven years earlier when his twin sister died, Nutscalder's life isn't exactly idyllic--especially considering that town bully Galton Grails has it out for him. His best friends, Mickey O'Dell, a "pint-sized Hercules," and Tommy Crum, whose penis is the size of a "Czechoslovakian summer sausage," share Nutscalder's disdain for the town and dream of getting out someday. But when they talk a pretty "high society" girl from jumping to her death off of a bridge, they become entangled in her sad story, which includes a sexually abusive stepfather, a mentally unstable mother, and a dangerous conspiracy where more than a few people may have already been murdered. While the cast is brilliantly portrayed and the storyline has some truly impressive plot twists, it's Northcutt's clear, confident voice and his ability to immerse the reader in 1969 culture that makes this novel so readable. The prose and imagery, while not always politically correct, fit the story perfectly: "She had a figure like Marilyn Monroe with an hourglass waist and tits like a couple of 1957 Cadillac bumper bullets." But ultimately, it's the thematic exploration into the power of friendship and the significance of (trying to) do the right thing that makes this so unputdownable. Readers who enjoyed Stephen King's novella "The Body" will love this novel. Radiates an immersive, dark, and nostalgic vibe.https: //www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/randall-northcutt/the-cusser-club/

When Robin Deering touches a map, she travels magically to that very spot. Sounds great, but the terra firma landings can be hard and sometimes injurious. On the other hand, water landings could drop her into the jaws of something ravenous. Almost always, an incidental touch of a map takes her to a place she never intended to go-much like her very unenchanted life after an out-of-the-blue divorce. Her return trips pull her onto the deck of her father's fishing boat, which is now parked in her ex-husband's garage. Awkward doesn't begin to describe this glitch in her inherited magic. When Robin accidentally touches a hand-drawn map with a plea for help, she lands in the Arabian Sea off the coast of India. From bejeweled water, she watches a young girl toss yet another bottled plea for help into the ocean. Curiosity over the girl's welfare entices Robin to return with a touch of the map, and a bond builds between Robin and the trafficked girl, Bimala. When the lives of Bimala and her young daughter are threatened, Robin must rescue the girl using her less-than-fabulous brand of magic or live with crushing regret.
