  • af Carl Canedy
    223,95 kr.

It was 1980. Once adored by the public, disco had run its course and was gasping its final breath. The New Wave of British Heavy Metal was beginning to gain momentum abroad. America was quick to follow with its own emerging metal scene and it was clear that musically, something very big was on the horizon. Carl Canedy stood firmly at the forefront of this blossoming movement. Carl gave up his role as the first drummer of Manowar to establish, with the legendary David "Rock" Feinstein, the influential upstate New York hard rock power-trio, The Rods. Carl quickly gained notoriety for his prowess as a drummer, songwriter and producer. The Rods were America's robust answer to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, sharing the stage with Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ritchie Blackmore, Ozzy, and even a gang of fresh-faced kids that went by the name of Metallica. Through The Rods and his production efforts, Carl helped to usher in a new type of music which took the world by storm and defined a decade. He produced some of the earliest (and now considered iconic) thrash metal albums such as Anthrax's Fistful of Metal, Spreading the Disease and Armed and Dangerous, Exciter's Violence and Force and the debut classic from Overkill, Feel the Fire. With his involvement, upstate NY quickly became a recording mecca for emerging heavy metal bands. And to this very day, after more than 55 years as a dedicated musician, Carl continues to inspire drummers from all over the world. Tales of A Wild Dog is Carl's story - a tale of heartache, perseverance, family... and consequently, a saga detailing the rise of heavy metal.

The only band member who remains synonymous with the Byrds is front man Roger McGuinn. The person closest to him, who witnessed the band's rise, glittering heyday, and tumultuous clash of wills-artistic and personal within the group-was his wife, Ianthe. Sharing tales of the Byrds' rise to fame from her unique vantage point as the only woman consistently involved with and at the center of the drama and success of the Byrds, Ianthe tells the story of the exploding rock music scene in 1960s Los Angeles. In the Wings is also Ianthe's memoir of being a young and beautiful Latina from Tucson getting a crash course in love, loss, sex and drugs, marriage, and motherhood while being immersed in the aureate and vagaries of celebrity. And of course, it is the love story of Ianthe and Roger, how that love was destroyed, and how she survived to find herself. The Byrds' worldwide hit songs from the 1960s, "Mr. Tambourine Man," "Turn! Turn! Turn!," and "Eight Miles High," are iconic. Today, the group is considered by rock critics one of the most influential bands of the 1960s. The Beatles called them their favorite contemporary American group.Rolling Stone magazine dubbed the Byrds one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in1991.

It was a tradition with the Hardy family, late on Christmas Eve, for the local singers and musicians gather together at the family home at Higher Bockhampton for a glass of cider and a warming by the log fire. Meanwhile, they prepared their music scores and candles, prior to setting out on foot to entertain the locals by serenading them with Christmas carols at their front doors. The musicians included Hardy's father Thomas (violin), and his grandfather Thomas (cello). Hardy recreated this scene in his novel Under the Greenwood Tree (published in 1872), where 'Hardy' became 'Dewy', the cottage 'Lewgate', and the choir, the 'Mellstock Quire'. Although Hardy had difficulty in embracing the Christian faith, he adored it's joyous traditions, reliving them vicariously in Under the Greenwood Tree, and so may we!

The Beatles will be remembered, and rightly so, as the sociological phenomenon of the Sixties...but if you're talking about music, it has to be Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. That's who they'll be studying." (anonymous fan) The Beach Boys are one of the most celebrated bands in the history of pop music. In a career that began before the Beatles and lasted long after their demise, they were responsible for almost single-handedly spearheading a new music genre, and along the way creating what is still referred to as one of the greatest albums of all time, and another cited as one the greatest albums that never was. Over the subsequent years, the band has been the subject of countless books and essays by some of the most esteemed writers in the business, with both words and music scrutinised in the most finest of detail. But what of the stories behind the songs? This is a book that tells you all you need to know about what I consider to be their finest recordings - their inspiration; the writing and recording; the squabbles and controversies, and their ultimate success or failure. But most of all, it takes you inside the mind of one man, the band's legendary leader, Brian Wilson, and a journey that began a little over half a century ago and now, and forevermore, is rightly acknowledged as a genius of his chosen art, and a man who truly "just wasn't made for these times.

Gary Numan is widely recognised as being the most important electronic pioneer in music history. Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl, hip-hop innovator Afrika Bambaataa, and Oscar winner and Nine Inch Nails auteur Trent Reznor are among legions of musicians who cite his music as having been important in their own evolution. However, Numan's journey from punky pub performer to Godfather of Electronica hasn't been a smooth one. Listen To My Voice chronicles his life as he rises to become the hottest pop star of 1980, retires a year later at the age of twenty-one, falls from favour and hits rock bottom during the 1980s, struggles to regain relevance during the 90s and eventually battles his way back to the top of his game where he remains to this day.For more than four decades Numan has been built up, torn down, praised, ridiculed, buried, resurrected, and ultimately respected. This is his story, listen to his voice.

From time to time, we encounter relationships that appear to go horribly wrong. Shocked, we can rarely see what is happening when it is happening. "I questioned whether there was Life after David Gilmour when he left. But it was the sound of my children's laughter in the garden that showed me the way,' she says tenderly with a tear. Ginger recounts tales of a life lived in a world that few of us can imagine but written in such a way that we feel part of it. Behind The Wall is a powerful account of events that lead up to and beyond the building of the Wall. It is a potent story that charts Ginger's marriage and rearing of four children with David Gilmour and the early years in the land of Pink Floyd and Rock n' Roll. It is relived in graphic detail but it is so much more than that. It is a story that many of us can relate to. Behind The Wall is a true story Ginger wants to share with her readers to know that there is always the Bright Side beyond the Wall and all our Fears. For when one door closes another one opens, bringing forth the Light reflected on the Bright Side of the Moon - if we dare. For David to Whom, I will always be eternally grateful for our time together & our four children

Dicky Howett has been a part of popular culture since 1962 when his cartoons started appearing in newspapers and magazines across the UK. By the Nineteen Seventies he entered the comic book marketplace and soon became a fan favourite after being signed up by Marvel Comics to recreate their super-hero universe with the accent on humour. The worlds of Doctor Who were next to be reimagined by Dicky as he created a monthly strip with collaborator Tim Quinn that ran for fifteen years. Books, greeting cards, posters, more comic strips and t-shirts were to follow, allowing him to further a lifelong passion by acquiring redundant movie and TV studio equipment. His timing proved to be perfect as film and television studios lined up to hire the equipment for period productions. And so was formed Golden Age Television. Dicky's company not only hired the gear but also started filming videos with top names in the Pop and Rock world. A long list of high profile TV programmes soon followed, sometimes with Dicky himself manning the cameras. Happily, cartooning was not forgotten with two new books of comics and cartoons being released in 2023. I Filmed The Horrors The Baddies The Kills and The Dead tells the inside story as we venture behind the scenes of the extraordinary worlds of comic books, movie and video production conducted by a master storyteller. - Tim Quinn, author of Argh, Who's 60?, Fantastic 400, Heroes, and The Queen

The Beatles are arguably the most successful act in music history. They were very prolific musicians before, during, and after The Beatles, and they were never idle, always doing something in the music and film industry through-out the decades. As well as their own individual projects, they also helped out on other people's records and pro-jects. On one tune, you may catch George playing slide gui-tar, Ringo may be on drums, and John or Paul will sing backing vocals. Throughout the years, you may have been listening to something which has some sort of Beatle mag-ic, without you realising it! This book is a database of these many fascinating collaborations over the years, some which might even surprise you along the way!

Ossie Clark came from a modest, diligent working-class family, an ordinary boy who went on to do extraordinary things. He was born in Liverpool and raised in the industrial Lancashire town of Warrington, famous for its factories and the birthplace of Lewis Carroll. The author never knew Ossie, but they attended the same technical school, Beamont. Seventeen years apart, both made their way to the enclave of Notting Hill in West London. Ossie found fame and fortune as the go-to fashion designer to the stars in the swinging 60s and psychedelic 70s. Once dubbed the King of the Kings Road, this is one of the most extraordinary stories of a man who had it all. It's a classic tale of a rise from anonymity to the pinnacle of the fashion world, with the ultimate betrayal, told from the perspective of a fellow Northerner. The author has dramatized Ossie's life with facts and informed imagination.

"ARGH!!" was the first word Tim Quinn uttered on arrival on this planet back in 1953. The way things are going he believes it is likely to be the last word he utters too. He certainly manages to cram a lot in between birth and death. As he explains, "Life is all downhill after the age of....two." While still in his crib, the world of comic books enters his life as his elder brother's copy of the 'Beano' causes a house fire leaving tiny Tim trapped in a smoke-filled room. Even earlier than that we hear how he was born striped due to his mother's wartime diet of powdered eggs causing her to nickname him 'Tiger Tim' after her favourite comic book character. Education under the iron fist of the Irish Christian Brothers leaves Quinn with a diploma for playing truant. They insist on him entering either the banking or holy clerical professions. Instead, at age sixteen, he runs away to become a clown in Blackpool Tower Circus. And so begins a life in what he describes as the world of synchronicity. "I always seemed to meet the right people at exactly the right time." One job leads to another as we follow Tim's hilarious life of ups and downs across the multiverse of circus, theatre, BBC television, comic books, newspapers, magazines, books, documentaries and music. Celebrities abound round every corner from Beatles to Stan Lee, and the Pope to Hugh Hefner. Fully illustrated with Tim's own personal behind-the-scenes photos and memorabilia.
