Psychotherapy is a Eurocentric concept and practice that has migrated to South Africa with technology, as part of the general transfer of knowledge (Mkhize, 2003). It has embedded Eurocentric principles that sometimes do not easily accommodate working with Africans. It has been practised by psychotherapists of African origin with chents of African origin, but is based upon Eurocentric ideas and guidelines for practice. Many African people consider their core values to be ußumtu, rooted in a principle 'umniu ngumutu ngabantu (translated as 'a human being is a human being because of other human beings"). Some important features of uBuntu are interdependence, respect, spirituality and the primacy of communality as an approach to life. Some of the ways in which these impact on daily functioning are not foregrounded by adherence to Western principles. The use of only Eurocentric principles when working with chents of African origin may thus not lead to the desired outcomes in psychotherapy. However, these Eurocentric principles are recognised and enforced by the authoritative bodies in the field of psychology, such as the Health Professions Council of South Africa. A distinction will be made between the more inflexible ethical principles of psychology and the ideas of therapy frames. Therapy frames are not seen as being as rigid as ethical codes and they could be augmented, to be appropriate for the context, particularly in the commonly multicultural settings that are found here.

The Ferns and Fern Allies of New Mexico, describes and illustrates nearly all the species of fern known from New Mexico at the time of publication in 1954. Although somewhat dated in terms of taxonomic nomenclature, the work features the detailed drawings by the noted botanical illustrator Janine Janish, as well as thorough descriptions and habitat information for each fern. As suggested in the preface, many who have thought of New Mexico primarily as a hot and dry country will be surprised at the number of ferns to be found there. Most of the state's species are in the massive, wooded mountain ranges. However, there are numerous species able to thrive in desert situations. This manual lists 7 families, 24 genera, and 75 species and varieties of ferns and fern allies (horsetails, clubmosses). However, 11 of the species have not actually been collected in the state though they have been found in similar country in neighboring states and are to be expected in New Mexico. Six species previously reported for New Mexico are excluded. In the main body of the work, following brief notes on the position of the Pteridophyta in the plant kingdom, their general characteristics, and their fossil occurrence in New Mexico, there are keys to families, genera, and species. Also provided are both genera and species descriptions, with information on habitat and general distribution. Essential nomenclature synonymy is also included for each species. The book is illustrated with line drawings which include habit sketches and details of critical characters. The book features a glossary of scientific terms, and an index to both common and Latin names.

Battle Hymn: From Chaplain to Fighter Pilot, first published in 1956, is the inspirational autobiographical account of U.S. Air Force Colonel Dean Hess (born 1917). Hess details his experiences as a combat pilot in both World War Two and the Korean conflict. He flew more than 300 missions over France, Germany, and Korea and received numerous decorations from both the U.S. and Korean governments. His service was the subject of the 1957 film of the same name, starring Rock Hudson.Prior to the Second World War, Hess was a Protestant minister living in Marietta, Ohio. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hess came to believe that it was not right to ask members of his congregation to fight if he was not prepared to go himself - not as a chaplain but as a combatant.In Korea, in addition to flying combat missions, Hess undertook the daunting task of organizing and training a South Korean air force. He is also remembered for his part in the so-called "Kiddy Car Airlift," the rescue of nearly 1,000 orphans and 80 orphanage staff from the path of the advancing Chinese in December 1950. Although Hess' actual role in the airlift has been somewhat criticized, Hess donated proceeds from Battle Hymn (both the book and movie) to charities helping Korean children.
