This edited volume focuses on political campaign professionalization in general (in Lithuania) and in TV spots (in Poland), and celebritization (in Croatia). The second part of the volume focuses on struggles of opposition in authoritarian regime (in Russia), whether Facebook can serve as an effective political marketing tool in an illiberal context (in Hungary), and the communication and campaigning of authoritarian presidents in a hybrid regime (in Serbia). This book interrogates the role of gender and class in shaping women's everyday leisure practices. Drawing on empirical research in urban Turkey, the book explores how leisure is perceived and practised by women within their communities. The book examines the relationship of women's leisure to their labour, women's access to and uses of public leisure spaces, and the dynamics of their everyday sociability within their neighbourhoods. It is the first book to apply Skegg's concept of 'respectability' - socially recognised judgments and standards which label the 'right' practices, that hold morality and power in a given context - as a theoretical tool with which to understand leisure in a country in which modernisation and Westernisation have been a central dynamic shaping political, social and cultural life. This analysis reveals that two measures of gendered respectability - reproductive work and the honour code - and how they mediate with the classed measures of respectability, are essential to understanding women's leisure practices in the Turkish context. The book argues that these interactions are likely shared in many Global South countries, including Islamic societies, and therefore that this analysis shines important new light on women's experiences more broadly, and on the social, political and cultural dynamics of traditional social structures in a modernising world. The core tenet of the powerful qualities view is that properties are both dispositional and categorical/qualitative. Despite the increased popularity of the powerful qualities view, there is no book-length presentation of the view in its distinct versions. The first part of this book analyzes the advantages and drawbacks of each version of the theory paying special attention to those difficulties that make it unstable and perhaps incomprehensible. In the second part, the author shows how a developed version of a dualist model for the origin of natural modality--according to which the specific behaviour of things in the world is the outcome of both the thin power properties have to be nomically relatable and certain nomic relations that determine properties' nomological role--can support an alternative understanding of the main tenet of the powerful qualities view.
