Originally from Belfast, Fred Johnston currently lives in Galway. In addition to his poetry collections, he has published one novel and works regularly as a reviewer for publications such as the Southern Humanities Review, The Irish Times, and Harpers & Queen, and he is the poetry reviewer for Books Ireland. Some of the poems in True North originally appeared in Orbis, New Letters, The Southern Review, and The Seneca Review.

By turns lyrical, abstract, anguished, celebratory, humorous, and reflective, they move between a nuanced appreciation of how things are and an intense longing for how they might be.
