Splash and her fellow travelers on the ocean-research Bubble have been invited to join a swim event in the San Francisco Bay to support sharks. But Splash doesn't know anything about sharks. Are they mean and hungry all the time? Do a lot of people get bitten by them? How many sharks are actually out there?Splash does some research on the Internet and quickly decides that they should not be going swimming in the bay. She believes chances are very high they will be attacked by sharks. But is that true?Splash learns about the risks of many things we do in everyday life and how we can manage those risks. She also learns better ways of doing research on the Internet, how to check sources, and how to compare facts among sources. After several tries at research, Splash finally reaches a conclusion.Will Splash decide it's safe to swim in the bay?
Splash has lived her entire twelve years in the middle of land-locked southern Texas. She's never been near the ocean. But now, she and her family are living in a floating bubble on the Pacific Ocean to do research. They are joined by another family with fifteen-year-old twins, Cassie and Donovan. The others are all working hard to help save the oceans. And then there's Splash...It's easy to fit in, right? To find the thing you're really good at so you can help the team? Now that Splash has decided to stay on the Bubble, she wants to quickly figure out how she can help-just like her new friends already do.Is she good at caring for marine animals or charting their migration paths? Is she good at taking ocean measurements or fixing instruments? Splash tries several new jobs. But things don't go as smoothly as she thought they would. How will Splash be able to contribute?
