The teachings contained in this book are the profound revelations of the Truth of the Self and how to realize it from Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. The book is the original version of the English translation of Sri Ramana Maharshi's "Upadesa Manjari," which was long out of print. SAT has republished it in its entirety in the form of this book. The actual text is considerably different in expression and the details of the teachings from the more commonly known version of this work published as "Spiritual Instruction." Includes all of the original notes and explanations.

In 33 profound verses, cast as a dialogue between a guru and a disciple, Adi Sankaracarya simultaneously reveals the supreme knowledge of the Self and the highest devotional worship (puja). The disciple first asks, "What manner of worship is prescribed in the undivided Existence-Consciousness-Bliss, in the one undifferentiated nature, though remaining in the state that is one without a second?" He then asks similar questions about the details of such in the context of utmost Nonduality, and, starting with the ninth verse, the Guru replies in the light of the Knowledge of that utmost Nonduality. By reading and meditating upon these illuminative verses by Adi Sankara, one will experience this profound, supreme puja.

This edition is for sale outside USA.This English translation from the original Sanskrit by Adi Sankara is a very clear, aphoristic explanation of what the Self is and the Knowledge that reveals it. Each verse is presented in its original Sanskrit (Devanagari) form, a transliteration into English letters, word-for-word translation, and fluent, running translation. The word-for-word translation also gives alternative meanings for many phrases in the verses. Sankara's teachings in this volume are very reminiscent of the Maharshi's, and are a penetrating and glorious revelation of what is one's own True Self.

The book deals with nondual Self-Knowledge and shows the means of practicing Self-inquiry which leads one to the extinguishment of all misidentification and to the revelation of Reality Consciousness Absolute. The book is intended for sincere aspirants of Self-Knowledge whose sole intent is the pursuit of Liberation. The teachings are thoroughly instructive and are written from actual experience of the Absolute. The method of inquiry and the Realization presented here are identical to that of Sri Ramana Maharshi. Each sentence or paragraph should be read and meditated upon as many times as needed to completely understand the experience being conveyed, and the practice of inquiry taught should be practiced methodically until final Realization.The first section of the book contains verses divided by spiritual theme. The second section deals with Self-Realization and Self-inquiry. This booklet contains an explanation of aspects of traditional Vedanta practice in the light of nondual Self-Knowledge and Self-inquiry.The four requisites are: discrimination, detachment, the six essentials, and the desire for Liberation. The six essentials are peacefulness, self-control, renunciation or nondependence, endurance or fortitude, faith or conviction, and profound, concentrated, formless meditation. The book will help the spiritual aspirant understand the original significance of the requisites, put them into practice, and thus dissolve the illusion of ignorant dualism and its consequent bondage and suffering, and realize the true natural state of the Self, Brahman, which is of the nature of Being-Consciousness-Bliss.
