This is an incredibly detailed and accurate account of one man's experiences as a National Service soldier in the British army during the 1950's. From the early days as a new and inexperienced recruit who was somewhat reluctant to leave home, it follows his journey through basic training and then half way around the world to the battlefronts of the Korean War. On arrival in Korea he was assigned to the Counter Bombardment Troop, a division of the Royal Artillery and mobilised to the conflict zone. The seasons and battle conditions in Korea varied considerably during his time, including the ceasefire and ensuing tense standoff which is still present today. The author has written this book six decades after the events which makes the accuracy even more impressive. He has also been able to include some original photographs which add immense value to the historical record this book creates. This book is sure to bring back memories to anyone who was in Korea at the time, and will be of interest to the descendants of Korean War Veterans, as it tells the story of the day to day army life and not just the battles. This is an important part of the history of the Commonwealth and the United Nations and their efforts to maintain peace and order in the world, which does not always turn out the way it was intended. The efforts, suffering and sacrifices of the people involved in these events must not be forgotten.

O-M-G, Om-inspired poetry? You heard right! Or maybe you didn't hear Written while in an altered state, this is as close to 'divine inspiration' as you can get without getting 'Out of This World' (gee, why does that sound somehow familiar?). Mantras just became a whole lot more useful! Here's hoping this pocket-sized poetry book finds its way into its your permanent (or impermanent) collection - and that Buddhists find a way to 'make it' in the West. There's only one Dalai Lama, but many ignorant Westerners. Don't spend hours contemplating the word 'Om', spend hours contemplating inspiration and insight from the word Om! Your mileage may vary - sorry, no refunds.

'Finding Heraan' is a work of fiction about a young man, Ageres, who is tasked with delivering a powerful message. The task proves a lot harder than he expects. He is confronted with many challenges, not least the fact that many greet his message with disinterest! Finally, he finds the village of Heraan, and there, his message has a powerful impact. But the impact is not what he'd expected. And even after the message is delivered, he faces challenges and temptations that threaten to destroy the very truth-telling that his message has unleashed. It's an allegory, of course; a philosophical fable. We live in an increasingly diverse world, where differences of religion, race, gender, and even beliefs, threaten to create a cowering silence, or dangerous conflict. We need to find ways that we can genuinely speak to and hear each other, and 'Finding Heraan' gives an opportunity for readers to reflect on what those ways might look like.

Universal Wisdom for the Golden Age is D. M. Langdon's second book. As with her first book, 'A Treatise on the Soul', D. M. Langdon reports she is not the author, merely the scribe. This will be immediately apparent to you, the reader, as you absorb the profound spiritual truths provided. D. M. Langdon is a Spiritualist Medium from Melbourne, Australia. The channelled wisdom compiled in this book has been received from two higher spiritual sources. The first source has provided the beautifully descriptive prose which conveys a biblical era. This poetic wisdom is seamlessly combined with the wisdom received from the second source, a universal visitor to Planet Earth from a spiritually advanced race of beings. This being is one of many who continue to visit Planet Earth to help positively influence mankind's choices. The combined wisdom channelled in this book is a beautiful blend of loving grace, spiritual truth, compassion and understanding. It is all about mankind's choices. Mankind is at the crossroads and we are all requested to awake from our slumber of apathy in order to survive the many changes that will challenge us in the coming decades. The book discusses mankind's collective responsibility for the devastation of Planet Earth, the impending changes to our solar system, and the many choices and tests mankind endures on the long journey of our souls, ever upwards, ever forwards, in our progression to the light. This book is a gift to mankind.

  • - A Primer for Politicians
    af Greg Lawrence
    170,95 kr.

The premise of this book is that the role of government is to look to the well-being of the people and to maintain and improve the quality of the environment. In other words, government is animal husbandry and ecosystem management - it is applied biology. Following this line the author examines the physical and mental needs of human beings, including the special needs of children, and how governments might best provide for these needs. He then brings a biologist's eye to the requirements for a healthy society; crime and punishment; and gods and religion. The responsibility of governments as ecosystem managers is explored by examining the ability of the world to produce enough food to feed itself, both now and in the future: environmental problems and abuses that are and will limit food production, from both the land and the sea, are identified. Potential "e;nightmare scenarios"e; arising from global warming and climate change, population increase, acidic and oxygen-deficient oceans and the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria are examined.

France, 1879. The Marquis de Rays dreams of a utopian colony on a remote tropical island in Oceania north of Australia. He has never been to this place-a rain-drenched wilderness shadowed by mountains. Undaunted, he gathers investors, and hundreds of hopeful European battlers set out for the new world. In northern Italy, a young farmer, Matteo, convinces his wife, Rosa, that they should emigrate. Leaving him behind to sell their smallholding, she embarks with their baby on the Marquis' third expedition. Matteo follows later, only to discover his family are gone, there is no arable land, malaria is rife, and the captain commanding the colony is mad. Will Matteo find his Rosa and baby Angelo among other refugees who have fled to Sydney? And if he does, how will they begin again? The marquis, a historical character, destroyed the lives, hopes, and fortunes of many. In this compelling debut novel, survival and a fresh start may be the best his victims - the investors, adventurers and immigrants - can hope for. Although the novel is set in the nineteenth century, it touches on issues that have resonance in the twenty-first century - financial fraud, a loss of trust in once revered individuals and venerated institutions, refugee policy, and the perennial dreams of 'economic' migrants seeking a better life. In her research for this novel, Ziegler spent time in Conegliano (Italy), Marseille, and Barcelona, absorbing the atmosphere and detail of these places. Her great strength as a novelist is her ability to flesh out historical facts and fragments into a fully developed world inhabited by knowable and relatable characters.

"Sharing Dharma", is the fourth book in a series that explores a secular western approach to Buddhism. It's title represents the move away from a single Dharma communicator who was responsible for the three previous books, "No Worries", "Talking Dharma" and "Sharing Dharma", towards an open sharing by those who engaged with and began putting into practice what they have learned and now share their own insights within the same context. This secular western approach continues to exemplify the idea that anyone who communicates the Dharma of the awakened mind of Buddha, is like the skeleton that points in the direction of the moon. They are not the moon individually or collectively. This book explores a wide range of Buddhist themes and topics that relate to the practical application of Dharma practice whilst living within a 21st century western culture. It aims to to eliminate the 'ism out of Buddhism and to align the teachings with current functional understandings within the scientific method of inquiry in order that the reader can undertake a personal inquiry from the perspective of simplicity and practicality without the hindrance of institutionalized religious dogma, unevidenced beliefs, superstitions, culturally biased world views, or anything that could be considered to be supernatural or paranormal. The secular western approach heralds a fourth reformation period of Buddhist history that aims to return to the basic simplicity of the original communication that was motivated to help human beings learn an effective method to move the mind away from worrying towards being at peace with itself, others and the world around it, for the benefit of all life forms.
