"Achieving Guitar Artistry - Concert Solos" is a collection of 56 solos reflecting awide array of colors, textures and moods. These were originally written forplectrum or flatpick guitar but may be played by the classical or fingerstyle guitarist. The solos range in difficulty from intermediate to advanced and will workwonderfully in recital or concert settings. Many of the solos encourage creativity with tone, expression and phrasing. Others are up-tempo and utilize Latin, jazz, bluegrass and Celtic rhythms. An ample amount of fingering and string markings are presented on each solo. This is the third book in the Mel Bay "Achieving Guitar Artistry" series. It follows "Linear Guitar Etudes" and "Triads." The goal of this series is to present material able to develop the serious guitar student into a very accomplished player.

This book of triadic concepts is as much for the ears as it is for the hands. Playingharmonized scales in triadic form is very helpful for the progressing guitarist. By working through these exercises, the guitarist will learn the harmonic sound of each key and develop a strong sense of melodic and harmonic voice leading. These studies contain interesting melodic content and are very fun to play. The keys are presented in tonic major and tonic minor rather than tonic major and relative minor. This is the second book in Mel Bay's Achieving Guitar Artistry series and follows the initial Linear Etudes text. Readers should develop a routine of practicing one key per day for the best results. Mastery of this book will domuch to enhance the guitarist's sense of voice leading, note reading and improvising.

This is a collection of 17 unaccompanied trumpet solos. All are lively in nature and will serve as good technical studies. They are fun to play and are intentionally evocative of the baroque trumpet style. This book is a sequel to William Bay's "Trumpet Chants," "Trumpet Tone Poems," "Trumpet Ballads" and"Hymns for Unaccompanied Trumpet."

This book contains 30 original "chants" composed for solo trumpet. The pieces are lyrical in nature and may be used in a variety of settings. They work well as a prelude or call to worship or even as recital selections, concert pieces or as encores to performances. These chants require sensitivity in interpretation andphrasing, a full, rich tone and control over breathing and volume. They also serve as good daily practice pieces. I hope you enjoy these solos as much as I have in writing and performing them.

The Christmas season has always been special to me. It is a season that has crystalized the hopes, aspirations and faith of millions of people through the centuries. The amount of music written for Christmas is monumental. This book contains 14 scores from my Christmas Guitar Portraits recording. I selected various genres dear to me. First, there are selections from the early American sacred song tradition. The Babe of Bethlehem, Cherry Tree Carol, A Star in the East, The Shepherd's Star, A Virgin Unspotted are all from this rich heritage. I also picked a number of carols from the "Old English" genre. Away In The Manger, Green Grow'th the Holly and What Child is This are included. Then there are theChristmas favorites. In the Bleak Mid-winter and a medley of Baloo, Lammy; The First Noel and Silent Night make any Christmas complete. Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence is one of my favorite Advent hymns. Gaudete, Christus est natus isa rousing carol dating back many centuries. Finally, I included two originals. Lullay, My Liking is an ancient carol text. Many composers over the centuries have written melodies to these lyrics, most notably Gustav Holst. I could not resistthe temptation so the melody here is original. Finally, Christmas Prayer is a new composition. I have always wanted to compose and arrange music designed tobring the plectrum or flatpick guitar to the concert stage. These arrangements were written with that in mind.
