Forraadt is a novel written by Norwegian author Amalie Skram and published in 1892. The book tells the story of a young woman named Elisabeth Altenburg who is forced into a loveless marriage with a wealthy businessman named Johan Nagel. Elisabeth's life becomes a living nightmare as she is subjected to emotional and physical abuse by her husband. Despite her efforts to escape, she is trapped in the marriage and eventually turns to infidelity as a means of finding some semblance of happiness. However, her actions have dire consequences and she is ultimately left alone and destitute.
