Bag om Furi'on
Who is John Cade? Who is he really?
Waking up with the consciousness of a dead alien would be enough to drive anyone insane, but sanity is the least of Cade's problems as he tries to convince the world that we are not alone in the universe. A genius ahead of his time or simply a schizophrenic with delusions of grandeur? Vost, the head of the government's secret, and soon to be disbanded alien task force, is determined to uncover the truth as the story is blasted across the national press. At the upper levels of government ministers are vying for blood as they desperately seek the source of leaked classified secrets that Cade seems privy to. Locking Cade away in a secret location he is subjected to interrogation as his split personality is evaluated through the help of a Malachi, a counsellor from Africa. Abadd'on, Cade's alter ego, is dead. Or so his people think.
But did Abadd'on ever exist at all?
That's what Malachi has to discover as Cade reveals his story. The roaming warrior race of Furi'on, with its advanced technology, its politics and religion spanning across a desolate universe, seems too convenient a tale to be true, concocted by the mind of a madman who is risking all as his family is torn apart. Cade's descriptions of another race lead to a search of the stars and the fear of a threat that may well exist outside of Cade's mind. It's a search that will take them to the core of an alien civilisation and beyond.
Regular readers of Clarke's novels will identify with the probing voice of split personalities, examining what makes them tick in an alternate universe manipulated by a secretive organisation seeking to control all.
