Hero and Leander is a narrative poem written by Christopher Marlowe in 1593. The poem tells the story of two lovers, Hero and Leander, who live in neighboring cities across the Hellespont. Despite the distance between them, the two fall deeply in love and begin a secret affair. However, their love is not to be, as Leander tragically drowns while attempting to swim across the Hellespont to be with Hero.Marlowe's Hero and Leander was left unfinished at the time of his death, but was later completed by George Chapman in 1606. This edition, published in 1821, includes both Marlowe's original poem and Chapman's completion.
