The Mark Twain Media book Holocaust focuses on bringing to light the decisions and events that led to and were a part of one of the greatest tragedies in human history. The book highlights the roots of anti-Semitism, the rise to power of the Nazis in Germany, and Adolf Hitler's plans for domination of the European continent and the extermination of the Jewish people, as well as other minorities. Death camps and methods of torture are described, but the book also recognizes the spirit of the Jewish people, the Jewish Resistance, and efforts to save the Jews by individuals and groups. Each lesson includes a reading selection with background information on important people and events, as well as a Recalling Key Details page. These pages are focused on developing reading comprehension skills with matching, multiple choice, and structured response questions.
