Heartbroken and afraid, a lonely orphan girl is suddenly thrust into a large family as they journey far away from home to pioneer land and struggle to survive the harsh wilderness of the Canadian North.
Still reeling from the loss of her beloved mother, Kanata makes the long journey with the large Woodhaven family from Saskatchewan to northern British Columbia.
Each family member will have their hearts tested, and out of necessity be forced to make sacrifices as they set out to tame this wild land, forge a new path and make the wilderness a home.
In this first story, of a 7 book middle grade fiction series, Kanata must face her fears of abandonment and rejection to somehow find her place among strangers in the Woodhaven family and the small community of Red Maple Creek.
Will Kanata survive this harsh land and discover that for which her heart longs for most of all... acceptance, belonging and love?
