Bag om Quest to The Unknown
Young Dutch reporter JESSIE GOLDEN is truly "golden" in the competitive world of business news. Quite unexpected she's given the plum assignment of interviewing business mogul and international playboy CARLOS GOMEZ. Her boss warns her that Gomez is a playboy, and Jessie initially has no intention of falling for his wiles, but he keeps showing up and before long the two are in a clandestine relationship.
It is while packing for their first holiday that Jessie discovers an old folder full of letters, news clippings and files in the closet of her new apartment. Intrigued, she begins skimming through the material and soon finds herself drawn into the story of the mysterious NANCY and her son, PAUL. She begins a quest to find the woman and her son that she feels some instinctual connection with.
A mysterious monk seems to have expected Jessie's visit. Excited about their encounter, he's thankful that the day has come for the journey to start. He sends her some letters, including the note Paul wrote before he committed suicide, and combined with the other information she has gathered along the way, Jessie is getting a better idea of Nancy's and Paul's life story.
She discovers she is not the only one interested in finding Nancy. Former German reporter BERNARD MAYER, once totally obsessed with a German psychic who predicted a worldwide disaster, killing more than half of the world¿s population, believes Nancy is the special woman that psychic foretold, appearing after the Apocalypse. In tandem with her quest for Nancy, Jessie begins investigating her now-fiancé's father, who has long been suspected of mafia ties. To her horror, many of the people who provide her with information that seems to corroborate the rumors end up dead, and finally Jessie herself is brutally attacked and left for dead.
While in a coma she has a near-death experience and discovers that her connection with Nancy is through Nancy's son, Paul, who committed suicide. When she awakens, Jessie is still unaware that she was unwittingly instrumental in Paul's decision to take his life. Meanwhile, Carlos rushes to be at her side, but unbeknownst to Jessie, all is not as it appears with Carlos, who is actually the mastermind behind all the violence surrounding her investigation of his father. Jessie appears just a means for Carlos to reach his long-term objectives, and she is in more danger than ever, from the one person she believes she can trust implicitly.
