Resurrection is a novel written by the Russian author Leo Tolstoy. The story revolves around the life of a wealthy aristocrat named Prince Dmitri Ivanovich Nekhlyudov, who is serving on a jury in a criminal trial. He recognizes one of the defendants, a young woman named Maslova, as a former servant whom he had seduced and abandoned years ago. Though innocent of the murder she is accused of, Maslova is nevertheless found guilty through a legal error (the jury omits to add the formula that she was innocent of the intention to kill as well as the actual act).
