We first meet Peter Singer in Auschwitz where he is already honing his skills as a racketeer. As a destitute refugee after the war he emigrates to London, quickly setting himself up as a purveyor of prostitutes to the upper classes and the inventor of slum landlordism, a new form of extortion.
