Bag om Tenbury Wells Young People's Poetry Competition 2017
This book contains the entries for the first Tenbury Young Peoples Poetry Competition in 2017. It is important to thank all the young people who valued poetry enough to enter this competition which they did independently and not through schools. The variety and diversity of the poems says a great deal about their desire to write poetry. The judges and I had a wonderful time reading them all and we're sure that you will enjoy them too. This project grew out of a desire to see more opportunities for young people to write and develop self-expression. We wanted to provide an opportunity to increase confidence, and interest and enthusiasm for poetry and creative writing. We were also seeking to raise the profile of poetry in the community and showcase the talent of our young people. We delivered poetry workshops into the following schools during the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms of 2016-17: Members of the group Border Poets (www.borderpoets.org) delivered the workshops: Our thanks to all staff involved in each school for the positive support and encouragement each has given to this project. The judges were three members of Border Poets, Pat Leighton, Thirza Clout and Paul Francis, each ranking their choices individually. There were two categories 7-11 and 11-17-each category has a winner, two runners up and some highly commended poems. Finally, thank you to Malvern Hills District Council and M E R Roberts, for their financial support, and to Yvonne Bradley at Tenbury Wells Library for her support in hosting the awards ceremony.
