The Carissima - Lucas Malet - Bog

Bag om The Carissima

""The Carissima"" is a novel by Lucas Malet that tells the story of a young woman named Cicely Japhet who is orphaned at a young age and sent to live with her wealthy aunt in Italy. There, she falls in love with a young artist named Lippo, but their relationship is cut short when Cicely's aunt dies and she is forced to return to England. Back in England, Cicely is reunited with her childhood friend, Guy Overton, who has always been in love with her. However, Cicely still longs for Lippo and is torn between her feelings for him and her duty to marry a suitable English gentleman. As Cicely navigates the complexities of love and duty, she must also confront her family's secrets and the consequences of her own actions. ""The Carissima"" is a gripping tale of love, loss, and the search for identity set against the backdrop of turn-of-the-century England and Italy.I am afraid it is true, even with the most civilised of us, that the appetite for horror grows with what it feeds on. I am naturally a soft man, a dweller in tents, of the Jacob rather than the Esau order of mind. I detest adventures, save of the drawing-room and five-o'clock-tea sort. Yet, as Leversedge ceased speaking, I was sensible of an unholy craving for more of these horrors. And, when his silence grew somewhat prolonged, I found myself--to my shame--saying greedily--.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
