Bag om The Devil Dwells in Dark Places

Arthur Jenkins and his ageing father Sam have lived on Norfolk Island together alone for twenty years since Sam's wife Lorna died. Arthur is now 42 and has never left the island. On Sunday morning after church, father and son are sitting in their car overlooking Slaughter Bay when Arthur sights a snorkeler who appears to be in trouble, but then appears to recover and manages to struggle onto the beach. Arthur walks down to greet the snorkeler, discovering a terrified young woman who has made a shocking discovery out on the reef: a body dressed in a long black gown and cape.Police bring the body to the surface. When it is taken to the local morgue, another alarming discovery is made: the young male, who cannot be identified, has had his penis non-surgically removed. The police sergeant has heard rumours that a satanist cult is operating somewhere on the island. He suspects that his John Doe might be an ostracised member of this cult.Meanwhile Arthur befriends the young woman, Gloria, who discovered the body. She reveals to Arthur that she has dabbled in devil-worship and knows how to identify satanists. With Gloria's help, it soon becomes clear that a number of the island's "upstanding citizens" are in fact satanists, who meet in a disused building once a month for "Satanic worship".Arthur discovers that the satanists are clandestinely involved in some obscene and deadly pagan rituals. In trying to rescue a friend who has been forced to take part in these rituals, he finds himself caught on the horns of a terrible moral dilemma, from which he can see no escape. As the satanists develop more and more power over the island's Christians, Arthur must put his life on the line in order to save his friends from the evil tentacles of Satanism..
