Summer 1919. After frustrating delays, soldiers are beginning to stream back from the Front expecting the "fit country for heroes", promised by Lloyd George. But social discontent, death, hunger and privation stalk the land. Teenage volunteer Jimmy Kelly returns suffering from PTSD to industrial strife and decline.
