The final book in the Story Teller Pentalogy is about D.I. Mackenzie Parish, whose wife and daughter mysteriously die in an impossible road accident. Five years later, during his investigation into the murder of a prostitute, McKenzie discovers that the killer can only be one man, Aiden Hawsley, who has been Prime Minister and Lord Protector of the united kingdom for the last ten years. The story explores McKenzie's relationship with his virtual reality lover, Loretta, who replicates many of the attributes of his dead wife, Catherine. Mackenzie then discovers that Hawsley must also have been responsible for the death of his family.
