Bag om The Lost and Buried Treasures of the Gaspe Coast
The Gaspe Coast is a place of stories, legends, and folklore. The pages of its past are filled with intrigue, adventure, and long-lost secrets. Some of its most fascinating stories are the ones about the treasures that were lost and buried here long ago in the secluded inlets and coves of the peninsula. Its rough and rugged shorelines, mountains, forests, rivers, and valleys offered some interesting hiding places for pirates, thieves, prospectors, and merchants to hide their fortunes. This collection of stories takes the reader back in time to when gold, silver and precious stones were lost in the holds of ships wrecked on the jagged rocks of the Gaspesian shoreline. It also tells the stories about the local people and travellers to the Coast who intentionally buried their treasures near some well-known landmarks, such as Perce Rock, Bonaventure Island and Mont-St Joseph in Carleton. Some of the stories are documented in historical accounts, while others belong to folklore. The only way to know whether any of these stories are true would be if someone found some of the hidden treasure. Until then, the thrill of searching for these long-lost valuables remains an exciting adventure into the past and worthy of a road trip around the Gaspe Coast in search of them.
