Accused of a crime he didn't commit but vindicated shortly after, Deputy Police Captain Duke Thornton of the downtown Boston Precinct decides to leave town for a while. Following up on an invitation by a friend from the west, he heads for New Haven. Amelia Sharpe is engaged but realizes that she can't marry her fiancé.
