This retelling of Homer's The Odyssey brings to life a 20th-century hero, Captain Ulysses Xavier Reynolds, a man thrown into the deep end of the Pacific theater in World War II. A consummate seaman, from a long line of such, and, more important, a devout Roman Catholic, Ulysses-also known as Cap X-seems always to be in the right fray at the right time to display the courage and valor with which God has blessed him.
