We prey on animals for food and clothing, we use them for entertainment in circuses and for hunting and racing in various sporting events. We use them as companions (pets), while at the same time referring to them as even our "best friends." We own them as property to show wealth, or to keep us safe, for example as guard animals. We train them to find contraband in various places like airports, and we even keep them captive in zoos and parks, where we pay our money, just to stare at them - and we call them "dumb."
