Bag om Where the Baltic Ice is Thin
A tale of thrilling submarine action, the pressures of command, romance in the fairy tale setting of pre-revolutionary Russia, political intrigue to keep post-revolutionary Russia in the war with Germany and, above all, heroism and patriotic duty.Leaving behind his new bride in early 1916, Commander Richard Miller VC takes command of the Royal Navy's submarine flotilla in the Baltic. His task is to prevent imports of the Swedish iron ore so vital to the German war effort. He quickly finds the sinking of German ships less challenging than the Russian bureaucracy to keep his flotilla at sea 1,600 miles from its base port, but at least his naval experience has prepared him for it. Fending off the charms of the beautiful Princess Anna Shuvalova in the fairy tale setting of pre-revolutionary Russia is something else! Then the Russian Revolution starts... Richard is quickly absorbed by the need to keep Russia in the war and his submarines out of the hands of the Germans, but in doing so, he attracts an enemy and the attentions of Russia's feared secret police, the Cheka.
